On my previous carb post
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...-406-carb.html I was looking for some information on carb size, but more importantly on the need of a choke for my intended operating conditions.

With the low hood height of a firebird, I believe a carb with a choke horn would really restrict the intake tract due to the proximity of the filter lid to the primaries. Without a choke horn, I suspect an increased intake flow would equate to increased horsepower.
That seems important to me...

For situations where the vehicle is used as a nice day / sunday driver does a guy really need a choke, or is patience during the warm up period a sufficient solution?

Lets here some input from those not running chokes on their carbs and what, if any are the down falls, as well as what the start up sequence is like.

i have no choke, summer time its fine, winter time you need to baby it when its cold, and keep the rpms up when you start it and then for a little while before it will idle on its own. Once its warmed up a bit its fine. I feel, that for a weekend car, you will be fine.

What do you see for low temps before you have any starting issues? I am only planning on driving her in the summer on warm days, as winter up here is ..... COLD.
