prob just a non-cc q-jet (not sure what the laws are over there), they can run strong if tuned rite.

Re: any aftermarket california legal carbs??

Depends....
If you have a CC-QJET then no. If it is not a CC-QJET then yes, there are a number of them.

If it's a 3rd gen, the only answer is "no".

Re: any aftermarket california legal carbs??

out here you better just find someone that will "pass" you... probably would cost the same as a new carb.

Re: any aftermarket california legal carbs??

The Quadrajet gets a bad rap because it is not as simple as a Holley. If my memory serves the stock E4ME used on third gen's is rated at 650 cfm. Holley used to make an emission's legal replacement, but it may be discontinued now as that was a while ago.

All Quadrajets have the same secondary throttle bores at 2.25". The rating differences come from the primary venturi sizes. The following is a little known fact, maybe even a secret, if you'd like larger capacity and still visually pass emissions.

1980 Cadillac's with the 368 V-8 also used C3 Quadrajets equipped with TPS and mixture control solenoid along with a fuel inlet at 90 degrees just like a Chevy Quadrajet. The kicker is that they were rated at 795 cfm if I remember correctly. There is a large difference in primary venturi flow area between this and the original Chevy E4ME. The only modification required is the installation of the vent fitting with epoxy into the back side of the air horn below the secondary air valve.

They aren't as common as they used to be in junkyards, but I still do see them from time to time. It seems 1980 was the only year for these so start hunting. This is a great way to improve flow that is virtually undetectable.

Enjoy.
