Acceleration bog with Edelbrock carb

Now here is a question, I have the same issue, but I have an Edelbrok Performer carb on my 350...
I don't have a clue as to what I'm doing, I finally got the dang idle mixture set correctly. *I think* anyways it runs smoother and better at idle and driving around, but that initial pound of the gas just almost makes it die...

i had alot of problems when running an edelbrock.. cruising, then punch it and it basically shuts off for an instant then picks up and charges.. also, i would set idle at 750, then go for a drive.. come to a stop, revs wont come down below 1300.. waiting for the light to change, sometimes the idle will drop down a bit.. then i switched to a 750 mighty demon.. set idle to 650.. revs go up and come straight back down.. but now i just run with 1000 rpm idle..

i got the same problem and thats why the edelbrock carb is going in the circular file when my new engine arrives. i have the problem traced to the secondary air valve and the lack of adjust ability just kills it. you can try this, on the passenger side of the carb there is a "L" shaped piece of linkage held in with 2 clips. if you remove it, the secondaries will not open. then take it out and drive and im pretty sure that, for you as for me, the car will not hesitate or die when you stomp it. give it a try, it take like 10 seconds to do.

Sounds like you need some more fuel. I had an edelbrock on my vortec setup and when i would mash the gas it would almost die. I replaced it with a 750 holley and the bog was gone.

My Edelbrock did the same thing on my 305. It would bog down badly, then go. I replaced the jets with smaller ones because I knew it was running rich, and the problem is gone.

Try buying the calibration kit and reading the instructions in your owners manual. The accelerator pump is probably only one part that is the problem. Once you find what primary jet/ metering rod combo would be suitable for altitude then take out those springs underneath the metering rod caps. Those control how quickly the rods raise up and let more fuel in. For a quick test you can buy the springs separately for little money and try with the fastest spring possible first. The silver will allow max fuel the quickest so start with that and try. For the record I have two 750 edelbrocks that give off better response than my fuel injected daily just because i was sick of bogging out all the time. Take some time with it and it will get better. The owners manual has tons of great info for tuning. I personally don't see much in throwing it away for a carb that is overkill. Plus you can change all of it way fast so even at the track its no big deal. On a side note make sure timing is correct.. if vacuum advance isn't hooked up it should. That could help off idle issues.

Also, the leading culprit IMO is that pump shot. Try one of the other two settings.

dont listen to that... you should be pulling way more vacuum at idle than the springs call for.. like i said the spring is rated at a vacuum for which the spring pushes up on the metering rod and let more fuel through.. so 17" at idle and then you pound the throttle and it drops to 0.. so a spring rated at 8" will start to "lift" the rod up when the vacuum is dropping and passes 8" on its way to 0" of vacuum..this is why the rods have two diameters listed.. kinda to give the idea how much they restrict up to from close to open.. if you pull 4" of vacuum you're car either has way too much cam overlap or timing is so far off .. it can't be running very well...

Yeah sorry I figured this out in another thread. I'm just confused as to why Edelbrock rates their springs up to 9", when vacuum should be nearly double that.
