okay, i'm getting a 570cfm edelbrock carb from my friend to put on my 82z. I was wondering what else, if anything i would have to change for me to swap that old q-jet outta there.

Cody, if you're using the original factory intake the carb may not fit on. Not like it won't bolt up, but the throttle bores on the factory intake are designed to exactly match the rather unusual bores of the QJet. Tiny little primaries, huge secondaries. Although I am not familiar with that Edlebrock carb in particular, I don't think it shares throttle bores and spacing similar to the QJet (nothing does).

An AFTERMARKET intake like the Edlebrock Performer will fit square-bore, spreadbore and QJet not just because it has all the bolt holes to bolt them on but also becuase the area right below the carb is a big open areas that accomodate many different bore patterns. This is not true of the factory intake manifold which was designed to take ONLY the Qjet.

You also need a vacuum/mechanical advance distributor. If you have an automatic tranny, you may want to rig up a way to lock up the torque converter clutch, a function now provided by the computer which you will make brain-dead.

If you're putting in a 400 sometime in the near future, why are you doing this? The 570 will be too small for it, and you won't get any benefit from the 570 over the q-jet (unless the q-jet is truely hosed up - which almost takes deliberate action to do).

Save your money for your final configuration. Incidently, that "old q-jet" would support a 400, unlike <600 CFM Performer.

P.S.: You sure about that carb size? I thought Performers went from 500 to 600 to 750 CFM. 570 sounds like a Holley Street Avenger.

first off, the 400 isn't going to happen now, so i figured i get a few bolt ons that would be transferable to a 350 when i get one.

i knew about the new distributor and already have one

i wouldnt think that the 600 will be big enouph for a 350 eather it would prolly work but you would be loosing alot of potential power id think but for a 305 its perfect
