Factory Cassette Question

Does anyone know what would cause a factory cassette deck to suddenly stop a switch sides during play? The radio has the built in EQ with auto reverse, etc.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Most likely the tape is crimping inside the player, causing unneccasary tension on the tape and making the player think it's hit the cassettes' end, flipping it over.
