Sub Box plans for Vert

I'm looking for plans or a box for my 91 Vert. The box I had built for my T Top is too big. I've been looking all over.

I hope someone can help for the sake of my SQL

Re: Sub Box plans for Vert

For a long time I had a 10" JL in a Ground Shaker tube/box but it was just big enough that it couldn't fit with the rear panel in the car. It annoyed me so I found a 10" Bazooka that fit better. My amp is located unter the panel with the glove box. I just removed the box.

I was thinking about going with a tube. Id rather have a box but my stereo guy has his stuff between his house, his ex, and in storage.

Re: Sub Box plans for Vert

Those with verts that I have spoken with (both third gen and fourth gen) all say the sound from a sub box in the space behind the fuel tank sucks with the top down.

I thought about putting a small sub under the seat or on the rear seat (never use back seats anyway).

Will probably be next season so look forward to hearing what others do.

Re: Sub Box plans for Vert

The box I have in it right now sounds good but it's too big and I can't get to the spare and I have the back panel off so no 3rd brake light.

I have all rockford fosgate speakers and amps. Anyone recommend a tube?

I haven't noticed much difference in the sub quality with the top down. I've had the same sub in my GTA for twenty years. If you need to, you can always adjust the gain on the amp(s) to get the sub to work in harmony with the front speakers to achieve your desired results.

I mounted my 6x9s in the space between the trunk/tonneau hinges and the bass is quite impressive. I can only imagine how it would sound with actual woofers, but the max dia you could fit is 8". I used to have 2 10" subs, but im past the thumping phase and the 6x9s do the job fine still and i have my trunk back.

I remember that design of yours. Always thought it looked very nice. Two 10's in a thirdgen is way too much, but I still like a little more bass than a 6x9" can provide. However, if you're ever near Ventura County I'd love to hear yours.

Re: Sub Box plans for Vert

If im ever in your neck of the woods, id be happy to show you how it sounds. Really surprised me when i hooked it up. I wasn't even trying to get more bass, it just worked out that way. I had a spare tire subwoofer that i switched to after the 10" subs and it didn't sound as good as this set-up, but you could always use two (or three) 8" subs instead of 6x9s. Do they even make an 8" sub though? I never checked.

Just about, i mean less than an inch to spare and yes, it blocks some of the sound, but not to the point its useless.
erock, what do you mean.

No, the convertibles did not have 6x9's in the rear, only the hardtop/t-top cars had them in the rear.

Re: Sub Box plans for Vert

I got a little confused too. Completely forgot about the non verts 6x9 location . You can cram 6x9s in the rear seat panel, but they look like poo there. Plus i got 6.5 speakers there already.

Re: Sub Box plans for Vert

I pulled mine out yesterday to replace the dashcam then put it back in storage after washing it as it rained. I was mildly annoyed there wasnt a lot of space there for the speakers I wanted I think I hae Cerwin Vegas there. I tried to get the RF in there to match the other speakers.

Still looking for plans though. I know I've seen some setups......

Re: Sub Box plans for Vert

A box will just use up so much trunk space, but if you never need that space or whats left and wont mind the difficulty accessing the side compartments. You can shove one in there. I compromised by using the lower half only, but eventually decided i didnt need that much bass.
