Will the Camaro brackets now work for the new 85-92 bezel? If not are they in the works?

Hopefully I will know something definite later this week. I'm guessing the radio brackets will work and the heat/ac control brackets may not.

There is a chance for the 85-92 bezel that the new brackets for the AC controls might not even be needed. There isn't any offset like the Camaro. It will be interesting to see how this turns out. I'm excited to be this close to installing my new double din stereo. I can have Bluetooth, Android Auto and even a backup camera.

The AC controls are not needed, but unfortunately the Camaro radio brackets will not work without a lot of modifications. You would need to drill new holes in the brackets. The distance from where the right side mount to the where the left side mounts is also different on a Firebird than a Camaro, I was thinking the spacing up and down was the only difference. Less than a 1/4" difference but enough for mounting brackets to not work without drilling new holes. I'm currently short handed (have a guy out with kidney stones) so it will be a couple of weeks before I have time to look into making new brackets. I would like one bracket that would be able to fit 1982-84 and 1985-92 Firebirds if possible.

Definitely need these for my build. Thanks
I made a slight change to the radio brackets, the radio brackets will work on 1982-84 Firebirds but HVAC brackets won't fit. Use coupon code "no-hvac" at checkout and you get a $10 discount and we don't send the hvac brackets.

Thanks for the update.
Are you still working on a design for the HVAC brackets?
I assume you have some pictures on your website?

We're currently working on the reverse mount brackets for the Camaro, after that I will look more into the 1982-84 Firebird (so far I don't see a cost effective solution for HVAC and radio mounting). The Camaro brackets look the same, just slightly different hole location so I haven't updated website pictures.

Thanks for the update on the brackets. When they are done will you be offering a package with the bezel like you do for the Camaros? It is great to have a business like yours still developing mods for 35 year old cars. Thanks

Yes, hopefully have bezel/bracket packages with instructions available for Camaro, Reverse Camaro (hvac controls on the bottom), 1982-84 Firebird and 1985-92 Firebird by the end of summer. I went to high school in the late 80's and third gens have always been one of my favorite cars which makes it fun to sell parts for them.

Is it possible just the brackets for 85 to 92 Firebird would be ready any earlier? I am planning my double din install hopefully by middle of June. I know your busy but I had to ask.

I'll know more once I finish the prototype. Currently I'm the person filling boxes when you order, my help is out with kidney stones. I'm expecting him back next week so hopefully will be able to go back to product development then.

I guess I'm the first. I usually am.

Here are a couple of pics. I have more pics, including some comparison-to-stock pics in my Product Review thread, specifically dedicated to this bezel, linked below. After all, this thread is about Screaming Chicken's brackets, not the bezel.

Double Din Radio Bezel for 85-92 Firebirds, New, from Unleaded Designs - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

We asked for it and there it is. Be sure to show some love to 7thdarkangel for his efforts.

Any plans for brackets for the top mount bezel to mount above HVAC controls?

We will be selling a reverse mount bezel which comes with spacers for the stock mount & will also include brackets for the radio. If you already have a bezel, unleaded designs sells spacers that work with their bezel and may work with other bezels.

Any updates on the 85-92 Firebird radio brackets for double din? I know you've been really busy and short handed too. So I'm just checking.

Unfortunately that situation hasn't improved, still short handed. Looking like it will be late summer before I have time to develop new products.

Added the bracket/bezel combo for Camaro Reverse Mount double din. Radio brackets are from Screaming Chicken and the bezel is made by Unleaded Designs like our regular double din kit.

Are you selling the brackets separately? I purchased the bezel last year but the brackets were not available at the time.

Disregard. Found on your site. Thank you. Order being placed now.

Any chance you can figure out shipping to Canada?

Easiest way for shipping to Canada is use a forwarding service, we recommend myus.com - they give you a US address to ship purchases to and then forward the purchases to you. Since all they do is international shipping, they get rates that are around half of what UPS/Fedex/etc. would offer me. Sometimes they do promos where your first transaction is free if not they charge a one time or monthly fee for their service. They are also much more knowledgeable on requirements for customs since that is their specialty.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

Did some testing and the radio brackets will fit 1982-84 Firebird dashes but won't fit 1985-92 dashes without a lot of modifications. Hopefully I will have some time in the fall to make 1985-92 radio brackets. If your getting them for a 1982-84 Firebird or reverse mount Camaro use coupon code "no-hvac" and we will only ship the radio brackets and it will discount the product $10.

Unfortunately, it's been difficult to find good help this year. I really need someone dependable to package orders and help manufacture products. If you're in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and looking for an automotive job be sure to contact me. That's been the holdup on getting the Firebird double din brackets ready, can't do much product development when I'm packaging orders all day.

Currently Unleaded Designs is working on different methods of making the 1985-92 Firebird bezels and they are currently not available. Another company, Starbuck Innovative Designs, is also working on a bezels for 1985-92 Firebirds. Once bezels are available, we can make brackets that fit the bezels.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

I purchased the double din brackets for my 1984 Trans Am and got my Pioneer AVH-2550NEX receiver mounted yesterday. This is a 6.8” double din unit. I had to make some modifications to the brackets and my center console to get this done. I’ll create a thread on the process once I’m farther along. Here’s how it looks so far. I’ll need a custom bezel. So far the couple I’ve found for 82-84 Firebirds on Etsy and Ebay don’t look well made.

I got one from Unleaded Designs and was very happy with the quality. Much better than what is available on Ebay or Etsy.

Unleaded Designs

The Unleaded Designs bezel are the best I’ve found on the market. The texture and color is spot on.

Thanks for posting the picture. That looks way better than the other ones I came across. I definitely want one that matches the color & texture without having to paint it. Seems like this would work great.

Nothing has changed since the last post, copied below:
Currently Unleaded Designs is working on different methods of making the 1985-92 Firebird bezels and they are currently not available. Another company, Starbuck Innovative Designs, is also working on a bezels for 1985-92 Firebirds. Once bezels are available, we can make brackets that fit the bezels.

I ordered what I thought was Camaro reverse 2 DIN brackets last year and I found out today that they are for a standard 2 DIN install. I have a custom reverse bezel for Vintage Air controls on the bottom from Unleaded Designs. My question is can I get a set of brackets without the bezel?

The radio brackets are the same for reverse or regular mount. The heater and ac controller mounts are not intended for a reverse mount bezel, but those are normally supplied with the bezel. We have done installs with standard Unleaded Designs reverse bezel with the radio brackets, for your bezel you may have to modify the brackets some to position the radio lower than normal. That is just based on the pics of the bezel you posted, so I would try it as is first. The instructions included with the brackets are for a regular bezel, but same idea with a reverse bezel.

Thank you for responding back. I'll give it a try again.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

I worked with Unleaded Designs to make a custom radio bezel specific to my double-din install. Zack was great to work with and I couldn’t be happier with the final product!

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

Sorry guys.
I've been absolutely swamped this year. Still building the new machine and mold set for the 85 firebird plate. I can 3d print the plates if needed for the time being if thats what is wanted.

Thanks for the update. I will just keep waiting patiently until you start making them again.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

I just completed the installation of the console in my Camaro. I want to thank Unleaded Designs for the reverse 2 DIN with Vintage Air controls face plate and the manual shifter plate with cup holders, they fit perfectly and look great on the completed console. Also thanks to Screaming Chicken for the 2 DIN mounting brackets, they worked great and were instrumental in making this all work. I appreciate the support that both of these companies provide.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

We added a new Youtube video this week showing a finished install with the brackets and bezel on our 1991 Z28, also shows what a double din radio can do over single din or factory radio. The company that makes our bezels (we make the brackets) moved from Texas to South Carolina over the summer, but is now relocated and working on new products again. As soon as he has a prototype Firebird bezel we will make brackets for the Firebirds. He is trying to make the new bezels look as factory as possible with the grid pattern which is why it's taking a while.

I am looking forward to the 85 to 92 bezel and brackets. Hopefully in time for spring 🙏. It sounds like they will be well worth the wait.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

Just an FYI, the grid pattern has a specific color and texture, because it serves a specific purpose. The bezel and shift plate are not simply all black, with the texture creating a difference in appearance against the smooth and glossy substrates. The squares are specifically colored.

The texture of the squares simulates the texture of the dash bezel, and the color of the squares matches the dark grey color of the dash bezel. The purpose is to blend the dash and console together, by "fading" the dash "into" the smooth glossy black bezel and shift plate.

I mention this because nobody has reproduced the grid pattern correctly, and I don't think there's ever been a discussion about what it's about, which makes me think there's a lack of awareness of the purpose of the grid pattern.

If the new bezel is by 7thdarkangel again, then maybe you can pass along the info to help him become the first person to recreate the grid correctly.

And that is why it's difficult to recreate, lot of details.

Re: Camaro Double DIN radio brackets from Screaming Chicken

We now have a prototype 1985-92 Firebird Bezel, it doesn't have the grid pattern but we can use it to make install brackets. The brackets should be ready and on our website in early November. They will make a double din install easier and the brackets will work with other bezels currently available on Ebay, Etsy, etc.
