Several Questions re: Component Speakers

I got 2 sets of component speakers from a friend who wrecked his car, but he doesn't have any of the technical specs. Maybe you guys can help me out with a several questions I have.

The 2 component "sets" I have are as follows:

A pair of Kappa Series Infinity CS-4 IMG (4") with separate tweeters (1")
The info on the back of the 4" is as follows:
Nom 25w Max 50w Impedance 4 ohms
The tweeter just has a number 321TNY

AND

A pair of JBLs T616 (6.5" Mid/Low) with separate tweeters
The info on the back of the 6.5" is as follows:
Max 100w Sensitivity 92 dB Impedance 4 ohms
The tweeters are stamped: T06 Oct 1990 and 1120-29493 F

I have contacted both Infinity and JBL and they can't or don't want to help me. I've searched the web and this board to no avail.

So 1) What wattage do I use to drive these speakers? I am more concerned with putting the volume up and having clear accurate sound, than shaking the sail panels loose.

2) As far as components are concerned, is the wattage rating (for example, the Infinity's say between 25 and 50) for just the mid or for the mid and tweeter combined? According to similar Infinity setups the amp runs to a crossover and the crossover runs to the mids and tweets, so does that mean the power rating is for both?

3) How can you tell a speakers' crossover frequency? I didn't get the crossovers with the speakers, so is there a way to test them so I know what type of passive crossover to buy/build?

4) For future reference, Is there a general rule or formula to determine the best wattage for driving a speaker given the speaker's MAX wattage rating? Manufacturers seems to like to advertise or list only the MAX which I've read is only good for short bursts of peak power not continueuos use.

Thanks in advance for any possible help.

I'll see if I can help you...

1. This drives me nutz! You can power those with a 250x2 amp or a 25x2 amp. Most speakers blow becouse of "clipping" not from too much power. I know, someone else can elaborate on the topic and many people have in the past.

2. Yes the power rating is to the x-over, not speaker. x-overs will usually cost you some watts.

3. Can't help you there. I would suggest going to a shop and having them burn you a x-over.

4. Pretty much. Those ratings are rediculus. They are at a single freq. usually and distorted to the max. Give me a set of 250 watt cheapy speakers and I'll put em on a PPI or memphis amp rated at 250x2. That voice coil will be fried in no time.
