Front Speaker Plates That Fit

Looking to replace my front speakers. They sound blown out to me. I'm still running the stock head unit. 5 band EQ with tape. I'm just wondering which would be a good replacement that will fit the stock dash without cutting/modification? I have a list of 4x6 options but was wondering about some 4x6 component plate options that will fit. It's my understanding that plate speakers will sound better but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I was set to buy some Boston Acoustics 746 since people seemed to like them but they are not made anymore. Must have been reading an old post.

Any suggestions/recommendations for my 87 IROC?

I used to have aftermarker CD/MP3 player with subs but went back to stock look after I put my exhaust on. I rather listen to the motor than the music, lol. It would be nice to have a CD player with aux input but I like the stock look. I see there are a few people that put in stock HU from other 90's GM cars that look decent. I'll have to look into that option.

For now, I need to get the front speakers replaced. I have it faded almost all the way to back now because the fronts sound so bad.

I guess I was looking for something aftermarket. I assume they will sound better.

Re: Front Speaker Plates That Fit

Don't just buy 4x6 speakers especially if you're buying quality. The higher end speakers have larger diameter and depth magnets. At least on my '89 TA, the vent is there and there is a specific size you can put in there. I haven't found a quality speaker yet. The stock speakers will sound like crap compared to a quality set. round speakers tend to have better sound than oval ones but you'll need to fab up a plate out of 1/4" mdf .. Jus tuse the old speaker as a template.
Kickpanel speakers (5.25" or 6.5's) are your best answer to up front sound but at the cost of your dead pedal on the drivers side.

Re: Front Speaker Plates That Fit

Meh, I just installed a set of pioneer 4x6 up front, they came with adapter plates. Unless youre an audiophile, and break out decibel meters and competition measuring tools you will not hear a difference. Don't let everyone talk you into spending your life savings on overkill. I've got pioneer walmart bought speakers all around and a dual head unit purchased from advance in the camaro and it's miles ahead of the stock stuff. Wife could not be happier.

That's not to say I don't appreciate expensive stuff, I've got about 3 grand into the stereo in my daily driver.

Re: Front Speaker Plates That Fit

the expensive ones dont sound good with stock radio, they need more power. low power aftermarket speakers or stock ones sound best with stock radio
