Deadener and Stereo Install - PIC Heavy
Thought I’d put a thread together for the stereo system I’m putting into my IROC. This will be done in several steps. I’ve also weighed each item to share what the total weight and weight of each stage will be.
Stage 1
Dynamat Extreme Deadener ( 36 sq.ft) applied to the rear of the car.
B-Quiet Ultimate Deadener ( 50 sq.ft.) applied to the front half of the car and doors (both inner and outer).
Now that the all the deadener will be in place, next step will be to install the sound absorb material to reduce the noise.
Stage 2
Ensolite sound absorb material (4 yards) applied to the doors over the
B-Quiet. Any leftover material will be applied to the back of the car over the wheel wells, behind the glove box and spare tire area.
Second Skin’s Luxury Liner Pro ( 4 sheets 36 sg.ft.) applied to the front half of the car.
DEI Boom Mat Under Carpet (48” X 54”, 18 sq. ft.) applied to the back half of the car
Now to tackle the roof
Stage 3
12-15 CLD tiles from Sound Deadener showdown and a layer of 3M Thinsulate Acoustic on top
Now for the tunes....
Stage 1
Head unit – Pioneer 880
Door Speakers – Clarion Pro SSS501
I've heard the Clarion's in a friends car with Ensolite on the doors and the sound rocked my socks off.
This set up will last this year. Still putting some together parts for Stage 2 which will begin next year.
Stage 2
Head unit – Pioneer 880 (same)
Sub – Image Dynamcs ID MAX 12” in 1.5 cu ft box sealed.
Speakers – Hertz MLK’s
Sub Amp – JL Audio XD 600/1
Speaker Amp – JL Audio XD600/6 bridged for 6.5’s
I also plan to run an ipod adapter from the HU to the glovebox
I’m also looking at where to build the sub box and what material to use.
So lots of material going into the car. Here is the weight breakdown
B-Quiet Ultimate (50 st.ft.) – 19.6 lbs
Dynamat Extreme (36 sq.ft.) – 15.4 lbs
Second Skin’s Luxury Liner Pro ( 4 sheets 36 sg.ft.) – 56.4 lbs
DEI Boom Mat Under Carpet (48” X 54”, 18 sq. ft.) - 18.6 lbs.
CLD tiles and 3M Thinsulate Acoustic – 9.4 lbs
Ensolite – 5 lbs
ID MAX sub – 31 lbs
Hertz MLK’s – 12.8 lbs
JL amps (both) – 12.4 lbs
That’s roughly 180 lbs for deadener, noise control and system !!
Time to go on a diet…..
I'll keep the updates coming as I go.

Re: Deadener and Stereo Install - PIC Heavy
Some pics of the Dynamat Extreme applied to the back haf of the car. Was done a few years ago at a show. 9 sheets (36 sq.ft.) were used. The front drivers and pass. floor were Dynamated as well Two layers were used over the pass floor hump to help with vibration and noise from the cats. Behind the rear seats got the treatment as well.

Re: Deadener and Stereo Install - PIC Heavy
I have had two third gens down that far. I took 3m rubberized undercoating and coated everything so nothing would rust and they never have. I have a t-top car and a vert. The 3M stuff works great and I sprayed it around the wheel wells especially in the rear wheel wells since they are very hard to get to unless you gut the car so I figured I was never going to sell the car so I coated the inside rear quarters, down low inside in front of the wheel wells; everywhere. You install like a pro but try the 3M stuff on the outer panels where you dont have the dynamat.
