Foam insulation tape works great for sound deadening!

I know it's been mentioned before, but insulation tape works great for sound deadening. I finally put some in today, behind the 6x9s. The difference is amazing. I can actually hear all those midbass frequencies that were getting lost behind the sail panels. You can feel the increased pressure in the car. Less road noise too.

Here's the kind I used: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Armacell-...3#.UogP3ycRq9Y I am not affiliated with that company, I'm just posting it because all the brands of insulation tape that were mentioned in the old threads, are no longer available anymore.

I do look for ways to save money wherever possible, but I am willing to spend for quality. But I can't see myself paying such high prices for Dynomat or Fatmat. It's more expensive than foam that they use in professional recording/mixing/mastering studios. The insulation tape is thicker too! It's pretty light too. The whole roll (5 sq ft) is only 3/4 lb.

I decided against any kind of roofing material because I couldn't find any solid information on how safe it is to be inhaling that in your car. Plus most of the roofing material I found didn't come with too much safety/hazard data.

Re: Foam insulation tape works great for sound deadening!

So I'm going to preface this with I'm not trying to be a jerk but....

Why the hell would you cheap out and use something like that? What the average person doesn't realize is you do not apply dynamat the way its shown on their box. You place small pieces, enough to prevent the panel or what have you from vibrating. If a panel is shaking and two fingers pressing on it lightly stops it, use the proper amount of dynamat to fix it. I have my entire car sound deadened with dynamat. There are much cheaper options without turning your hidden areas into a home rennovation job. On the positive side your product is mold resistant lol

Eastwood sells their version of dynamat at a much cheaper cost. The butyl rubber/ metal combo are proven to work, I've never applied insulation tape to any cars I've ever installed in, but I would be willing to bet that in a side by side comparison, a majority of what youre finding with the insulation tape is a placebo effect. Ill give you credit for thinking outside of the box, it just kinda irks me sometimes because I've worked on/ owned many cars where I pull a panel, or go under the dash, or the carpet and find something that just makes me go Wtf is this?!

Foam would be good for decoupling panels, but it certianly will not stop any sound from coming in.. dynamat wont make the car any quieter either, it only stops rattles by turning vibration into heat. You are experiencing the placebo effect.

Try some Ensolite on top of Dynamat (or other deadener).

Boommat will work as well.
