BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

So I have been out of car audio for a while, but I would like to know if someone has any good ideas for a nice speaker replacement for the back hatch BOSE lid. The stock AMPs are shot but I am going to be using an alpine 4ch amp to power those (bridged) since I cannot find replacement amps.

The ideal speaker should work well in the factory enclosure, be apt to handle a good load and sound clear and crisp. I do not want to pay Focal prices but if I have to I might.

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

I'm having the same problem. Bose amp shot on the speakers and it would cost to much to send back to bose to replace. Years ago I had high quality systems in my cars, like NAKAMICHI, Denon and Mcintosh. In today's market it's hard to find a wide range of high quality stereo components. Right now I'm running NAKAMICHI cd 400 receiver, boston accoustics sr 65 in the doors and boston accoustics sr 95 6x9 in the rear sails. Stereo store recommended cutting the bose boxes. I told them no. I'm thinking of using soundstream reference series amp and still trying to figure out what speakers to run in the bose rear deck boxes. I'm interested in Hertz or focal too but i need to hear them in person. I was thinking of Boston's but there leaving the car audio business.

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

I hear ya, and I have looked into other threads using search to see if there was any info out there but I have come back with very little. Maybe Im not wording it right. Anyway, I am tempted to call them and see if there would be a discount on amp repair if we did a group deal. Maybe they could even update them a little? If I call and get a deal going... would you be interested?

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

If I didn't replace the system already I would have like to use the bose that came with car. I've owed the car since 2005. The stereo never worked so never had a chance to hear them. For my model year 1990 they claim only 800 came with bose if I remember correctly.

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

I would try the Polk db651 speakers. I am using the older version of these in the bose rear enclosure. Just being powered off of a 4th gen radio they put out a lot of base. The highs are sharp and the mids are clear sounding too.

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

Try JL 6W0 or 6w3. The will fit in the Bose enclosure. Hawk92z did this mod and has pics here somewhere.

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

Those look perfect! But the thing is I wonder if they will fit? I know the stockers are smaller and not very deep. I will try and locate the user and see if he has any info. Thanks!

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

I was thinking of using those jl audio six inch subs about a year ago. The problem I see with them is they require a sealed box and subwoofers need a wooden or particle wood box. The bose box is vented and made of plastic. Your better off with a component speaker in them and a separate box for subs.

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

I sent my rear set and front kick panels to an independent repair facility in florida about 8 years ago and for a resonable (I want to say $50-60) per amp they replaced all the components and they work great since. The capacitors tend to go on the BOSE amps. If interested I can dig up the receipt tonight.

Sealed or ported (small) depends on the application one requires. Boxes can be made made out of many materials (think fibreglass). Could always line the box with deadener to enhance the sound.

6.5" subs won't produce a lot of bass output but better than the old Bose speakers. A single 8" sub will provide more bass than two 6's. Sundown 8' comes to mind and will fit in 0.3 cu.ft sealed.

That would be awesome and much appreciated. Also if you could tell me how much you paid so I know what I am at least looking at.

As for the speaker box, I know due to the restricted air space of the factory enclosure it will not produce hard hitting deep bass.... I would much rather prefer a clear, crisp and extremely LOUD set-up that still has deep tones so you can hear the full spectrum. Basically like a high dollar modern factory stereo - but better.

Make Sense?

And yeah, as for boxes they can me made out almost anything. It depends on the cabin, which way you fire the woofer and what air space and enclosure the said speaker is made for. Back in the day, 2 12" subs fired at the back in a sealed box gave me the most "bang". I'm not really looking for all that anymore.

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

http://www.carstereohelp.com

$80 per amp in 2005
Lifetime warranty on the single channel amps
Mine was $352 with shipping for all 4.
No issues since.

I wasn't going for anything but stock functional Bose (interior is showroom clean) and have been very pleased. Whether it's worth spending that for stock look or getting latest aftermarket is personal preference!

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

You could put a dual chamber 8" or 10" box in the area below- and port each side to the speaker holes with flex or hard tubing? I haven't seen a Bose board, except in pictures, so I don't know the space available. You would need a subwoofer that can handle free-air systems...

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

I put 6.5 infinity kappas in my bose rear deck (91-92 style rear deck) and either 4 or 5 inch kappas in the kick panels. I also put infinity kappas where the plates go in the dash. My system sounds great but could use a little more bass. I used silicone to seal the speakers in there enclosures to help them do what Bose designed them to do. I need to come up with a way of adding more bass like maybe the infinity bass tube hidden in the back or in the rear floor board or seat with a quick disconnect wire to move it around or take it out.

Re: BOSE rear hatch speaker replacement.

I was able to fit theseKenwood 6-3/4" component speakers into the stock location. The screw holes for the Bose grilles is correct to let you screw these right in place. No cutting was necessary for the woofers but I did cut two 1" holes near the center for the tweets. They dont overhang off the deck lid, but they do rest on the very edges on the sides.
