Re: ticking in speakers
You likely have what is known as a "dirty ground."
...as in a not very good connection
Check the ground(s) for your sound-system componets first.
If that doesn't solve the problem, check the ground for other vehicle components, starting with the other grounds which are closest to your sound-system ground.

Alternator whine or ticking 9 times out of 10 has to do with dirty grounds.

Re: ticking in speakers
dampness improves conductivity of poor DC connection
air circulates while driving
damp connection begins to dry
effect of poor connection becomes more apparent
When my dad was a radar man in Panama during WWII, they used to pee on the ground wire for their radar system when it would start acting buggy. The trick was to drink beer fast enough to keep a "strong bladder," so you were always at the ready to pee on ground if things got hairy. There wasn't exactly a lot of aircraft activity to be monitored in Panama. But it was important to stay at the ready. The beer thing cost dad some stripes before he was discharged, but by the time they sent him home, it was time to go home anyway.
These guys could help us fix out thirdgens I'm sure.
