double din headunit options?
I want to put a double din headunit in my thirdgen.
Requirements: need to be able to adjust the colors to the orange glow of my in-dash lights. (an exact match would be preferable)
Needs have a USB drive in the front.
Needs to play divx movies.
Needs to sound good without an AMP.
bluetooth would be nice.
I was looking at the pioner avh-x2500bt, but its USB drive is in the back. How are you supposed to plug anything in?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Bill

Re: double din headunit options?
Does anyone sell a usb extention cable and/or an AV cable that can flushly mount on a surface? My idea would be that if I have to get a headunit with the ports on the rear, I could get such USB and AV extension cables. Then, I could plug them in the back of the headunit, drill holes in the bezel surrounding the radio (if there's room) or in the shift plate, or wherever, and then mount the other end of the cables there.
Thanks again!

Re: double din headunit options?
This one isn't double din, it's single din which has a pop out screen. Has different color options and usb on the front with bluetooth. It's the one I'm getting.

Re: double din headunit options?
For a rear USB port headunit, you want something like this. Either drill a hole in the dash to put the plug in or use the mount to hang it under the dash/in the center console (my choice).

I found that AFTER I got a head unit with a front USB port. I wondered the same thing about the rear port head units & didn't want to make my USB drive a "permanent addition" to my car.

i know this thread has been dead for almost a month now, but for anyone else looking for a flush mount USB cable, the one posted above is nice, but
I work as a Computer Analyst and the department I'm working for now uses a lot of products from Tripp-Lite, needless to say Tripp-Lite sells a cable that has an end on it for easy flush mounting
Model #U024-006
6ft black extension with an open metal end,and no added plastic, Ill be installing one in the RS soon

Re: double din headunit options?
In fact, the cutout in the circle end of the cable you posted is nothing more than the size hole needed to cut in any given panel to directly mount it without the housing
edit:
that is if you are very good at cutting a perfect hole for the usb end, i never said the kit you posted wouldn't be better or easier, mine is just a cheaper alternative

Re: double din headunit options?
I know I'm probably late, but why not use the rear input, get an extension USB cord, and route that to the bottom of your ashtray? This essentially relocate the USB port without looking like anything was modified other than the stereo.

Re: double din headunit options?
My Pioneer AppRadio2 has an HDMI input in the rear. What I did was run the cable under the dash and trough the center console and end in storage compartment in the center console. I plug my phone in and leave inside the console.
I can control the every function of the phone from the touch screen radio, including my hands free phone calls, navigation, Mp3 player, video player, and Internet from a 4G Galaxy S3 smart phone.
It has a 7" multi-touch screen with backup camera and an external GPS antenna. Without the phone being plugged in it is just a radio with Bluetooth and backup camera.
It is an awesome stereo.

Re: double din headunit options?
You have to get a USB extension cable can find some where to mount it.
If you're a not smoker maybe you could mount where the ashtray goes.
With a big screen there just isn't anywhere to put the USB in front so they put it the back.

Have pics of it? Looking at the new pioneerAppRadio3-looks like a great bang for the buck!
