I believe you have to hook up the orange and yellow wires to the orange wire in the car. This will give it constant power.Brown doesnt get hooked to power

Does "LOC" appear on the display? if so these are for the newer radios.
1. Press and hold presets 2 & 3 for about 10 seconds until the first 3 digits of the display code are displayed
2. Write the numbers down.
3. Press the AM FM button, write down the next 3 numbers
4. Call 1-800-537-5140, when asked, enter 202107, press the ÒbuttonÓ and enter the 6 digit code from the radio, you will get an unlock code, write it down.
5. Go back to the car, press the HR button and set the first 2 numbers, then press minute button and set the next two last numbers, press AM FM button, SEC should be displayed, turn on radio To remove customers code, repeat step 5. you should see --- on radio face, the code is now out of the radio.

Re: 4th gen radio in a 3rd gen help
The harness in my 88 GTA was plug and play for the newer Pontiac Delco radios. Should be the same for your 87, I've attached the 20 pin connector wiring diagram. newer Delco decks (beyond 2000) have a 22 pin connector
Did you see the radio working before the install? Could it be the radio itself?
If you want to see a pic of mine 4th gen radio its at:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/car-...ml#post4469640
I'm trying to add an aux line in to use my mp3 player
hope this helps you get some tunes in your ride.....if you are still having problems, so pics of the front and back of the deck would help.

When you say thread do you our radios are the same but you have the CD player? If so do not use the newer harness, your stock harness should plug and play (if the decks are the same (20 pin)

Re: 4th gen radio in a 3rd gen help
I am trying to figure why you want a 4th gen radio. It is a 600 watt moonsoon but it is nothing special. Plus you have to order special speakers that blow all the time. Bettter just to go total aftermarket. Newest radio would still be 8 years old, not much life left in that.

Anyway, here is the older wiring diagram, cross reference this with the newer one I posted above. Make sure all wires match colour and function.
If your car has the older harness, you might have to purchase an antenna adapter (newer are smaller)

Re: 4th gen radio in a 3rd gen help
I apologize for the thread necropsy but I just solved the same problem the OP had when I installed a '99 Grand Am CD player into my '84 Z28.
The deck would illuminate, show time when I hit recall or the hr/min buttons and even eject cd's but would not "turn on" to actually play CD's or the radio. As noted, there was no "LOC" or any indication of theftlock being activated.
Double check your yellow switched ignition 12v connections. I was diagnosing with a multimeter and found I had constant 12v power on the orange but nothing on the yellow when I turned the key. Turned out the Red 10amp radio fuse was burnt out. Popped in a new one and the deck worked like a charm.
Hope this helps any future searchers.
