Cassette TO CD Swap
Are the factory connector(s) on the "car" side for a factory AM/FM Cassette unit identical to a factory AM/FM CD unit, for a 1991 Z28? In other words, can you take out the factory cassette and plug 'n' play a factory CD?
Seems like it would, but please let me know.
Thanks,
Bill

Yes. The connectors are all the same. Even model to model. GM pretty much used the same connector for everything.

Thanks for the reply! I thought the connectors would be standardized, but wanted to check.

Re: Cassette TO CD Swap
OK, I have obtained the factory AM/FM/CD. The three connectors present on my car are: white, 4-socket; blue, 4-socket; black, 6-socket. When I connect the plugs to the corresponding ports on the CD, and turn the key to acc, power is present as the clock displays and I can set the clock. However, the unit does not come "on" when I press the "POWER" button. Are any other connectors required on the CD, connectors that are not present on an AM/FM/Cassette equipped car? Thanks for any input!

Re: Cassette TO CD Swap
Are there any empty connections on the CD player after you plug them all in?

Yes, 2. On the cassette, there are 4 ports in a block, of which 3 are used. The CD has this same block of 4 ports, with the same key-ways for the connectors, plus an additional port (5 pins, i think) at the lower left hand corner of the unit, when viewed from the back. I thought this additional port might be for a power antenna???

P.S.: Refer to the second pic in the thread "Super rare OEM 91 Z28 AM/FM/CD player" thread.
