People posted this topid and pics before. My opinion .... not worth it.
1) Its easier to build a sub box for the well or sparetire area like i did.
2) You wont loose the seating space.
3) The shape of the hatch is perfect for sound quality. So a sub in the well is the ideal spot.

Between the past two days I ripped out all of my interior exept dash, and I'm not to anxious to put the rear seats back in because no one sits there anyways, and since I am making a custom box for my system I might be making the box so it covers the back seat area, and do a custom design, with plexiglass, some neons, carpet, a couple decals and some paint. I personally wouldn't put subs there because like 'deadtrend1' said, the well area has a perfect area for subs and sound travel. thats my opinion.

I was thinkin the same, since im 6'5" no one can sit back there.
As far as the sub i was fire them down or back.

What I want to do is, make it even with hatch deck .So it flows nice and even

that's a good idea, if you don't use it lose it right? i know that putting the subs right on the hatch deck makes it bass real nice, off the window and that's my favorite spot as of now, but if you can make it look good on the back seats that would be nice also

I think it could work.

I bought a cheapie 12" Kenwood woofer, and had it in a pre-fab ported box. It was too big to fit in the hatch, so I placed it on the back seat, passenger side.

I played my music, and kept moving it around, I ended up with the woofer firing back toward the rear seat, with the port facing up. It got really loud like this, and sounded great!

I'm curious myself how a pair of subs firing back towards the hatch would sound. Everything was in phaze with my single sub like this.

I'm not doing sub boxes there, but you get the idea. Use your imagination to replace the storage boxes with subs and this is what it could look like:

I am also planning on loosing my back seats for my system. Mine will use a plexi box tie window between the seats to allow viewing of the baskets, and the subs will actually sit farther back (more on the ledge) facing the hatch. The wonderfully deep well will be used to house a custom amp rack with stacked amps, cooling fans, and some two way mirrors and neons. Subs will be 4-12" JL audio W7's

I won't be starting this project until next spring, but I will post lots of pics as the project starts and progresses. Over winter I will be doing a 98 headlight conversion and custom molding my own front end, rear end and side skirts along with a fiberglass dash.

When you have a car with as good of acoustics as a ThirdGen, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!! Putting subs in the back seat, in my opinion, takes up space you never know when you may need, and doesn't sound as good as in the rear. Take a look at how I have mine set up. Might not be the pretiest (or best for theft-deturance) but it sounds #%^@! awesome!! That rear hatch not only reflects the bass wonderfully, but it actually makes the subs sound a little more crisp, which is great because I have the crossover on. My $.02

........happy little firemen.......

That's how I had my subs in my last car... 2 Pioneer 450w 12"s with a Kenwood 600w amp. It sounded awesome!

That 4th gen is beautiful... but I too think that the hatch really helps with subs.

if your gonna do a rear seat sub kinda setup you best bet is to do a wall. we have 3 camaros with killer stsems and the best one is with them in the hatch.
theres enofe room in the hatch for a 15" set up and for $450 you can get a great sub an you only need a good amp to be hitting 150's

Hey cuno,
does that box with the 4 firing at each other sound very good?
that might be cool to have to in the "trunk space" firing like that.

i personaly dont think that would sound good, although ive never heard one like that, but i would think there would be a lot of cancelation of the frequencies in that type of set up

There was quite a bit of cancellation. It hit hard though. I was going to build a band pass box that is simialar to that one with plexiglass seperating all of the subs. The ports would be along the floor or in the center on top of the hump...still up in the air wether I will build it or not though.

I managed to find some pics of this done in a firebird on sounddomain... so here they are.

This guy is crazy!
His website
He has several different types of boxes he's used.

I'll just show a few of them.

Here's what he's powering them by... he has another yellow top for the motor and those are the JBL 1200.1s on the side.

Here he stepped up to some 15" L7's!!!

Oh I forgot to add that box is ported in the very back of it in the hatch area.
