System Building Rituals

does anyone have any box building/system design rituals? I have a few. I like working out side with a certain CD to listen to at 3am under florecent lights. Then i'll sign my box that I build. Before I carpet it. Anyone else?

I like to leave my tools lying around and cause general havoc wherever I work, cos I actually like being yelled at by the wife.

Other than that, I make sure to use lots of cable ties to tidy up the wiring I've just done. I hate messy wiring!! That's more of a good practice tip than a ritual, but that's all I got!

I have the ritual of screwing up the first box before I get one that comes out right I also have the ritual of getting pulled over for sound ordinance with every new piece of equipment I buy...but the cop is coo so he just gives me a warning and then compliments my new stuff :P Oh ya, I always test the new sub/box with the same three songs in order...sine sweep, Rabbit Run - Eminem, and last but not least Down with the Sickness - Disturbed. As you can tell I havent been building boxes very long, cuz Rabbit Run came out a lil before 8 Mile did. I have build bout 3 boxes, one for my camaro, one for a friends truck, and one for a buddies Stratus. Mine has a Type-R, the truck box has 2 cheap radioshack subs (but they sound pretty good for what they are) and the stratus has two sony aluminum cone subs. All 3 systems sound bad ***.

i start out by fighting with the wood from Lowes and trying to strap it on th etop of my girlfriends red tempo. i always come close to losing the wood about 3 blocks away from my house. i leafe the wood in my garage and think about how cool its gonna be for three (3) weeks. when i decide to do it i must have upset the gods cause it rains on that day (in case of winter replace rains with blizzard). but since i am determined i tuff it out an dtake the proper measurements. i cut all the pieces out perfect except for the biggest piece which i always under cut. no matter how larg eof a margin i make so i can mess up i ALWAYS UNDERCUT. anyways after i make the box and take so many trips to ACE and ACO that the trainees know me by name i start to carpet it. since im too cheap to use real carpet i use felt from a fabric store this is a trip in itself. i fight with the spray on adhesive for about 20 minutes and i usually lose. i arise from my project with many cuts and fuzzy hands from the felt. after i get everything in and wired correctly i play a cd i have entitled test mix. it consists of three songs. one is a bass drop that tests tweeters at about 600hz and incriments to sub bass at about 5-10Hz in about a 15 second period, the next song is Pallar Anders Visa - In Flames (From CKY2K the Bee on a String), and finally yes Down with the Sickness(<---song rocks!). ive made three sub enclosures and two amp boxes just like mine. each instance has turned out the exact same.

I have a great ritual. I start by laying out everything I need. If I'm installing an amp: I tear half my car apart so that I can run all my wires for the power, remote, and speakers. If I'm installing a head unit: I tear half my dash apart and mount everything and run all the wires. I make everything as perfect as I can but I never check anything to make sure that its right. If I'm making a box I measure and draw out each peice and make my cuts. I never take the time test fit anything together. I get everything the way I want and then I put my car completely back together (still haven't checked anything because I know I couldn't have done anything wrong). Then I put all my tools up because I just know that I won't need them any more. After everything is cleaned up and put away, I get my keys out. I sit down in the car and turn the key and wait for the fruits of my labor. And wait, and wait. Sometimes I get it right and man that feels good but the other times I have to go back and take eveyhing back apart and find where my mistake was. You think I would have learned by now. I love it.

I love it.
It is the greatest feeling in the world (well, one of them anywayz ) when you take the weekend and use it to install that kick **** stereo system of yours...you take the weekend off from partying, hangin with your girl/guy, and slave and labor over the box and installing everything, and when you finish installing that kick **** system, by yourself, and everything looks killer and sounds killer and you have the battle wounds to show for it (especially if you lose a finger or sumthin) and the knock-you-on-your-**** bass that proves you are THE MAN! You have everything you wanted and talked about to all your buddies and they envy you with the utmost jealousy and you know, for a fact, that YOUR SYSTEM RULES AND YOU DID IT YOURSELF AND NOBODY ELSE DID. You respect it alot more too.

PS...sorry, I'm tired, havent slept in 2 days, so if none of this makes sense I shall edit it away, ok?

Gotta have the weekend free to do it, and nothing else to do, nowhere to go. Gotta have atleast a case of beer. Get out all the parts i need. First gut the car and get all the space i need ready. Then lay wires, but dont connect them all. Make all my solder joints next. Then wire things up last. Hit the power, and pray that it works. Most often something gets forgot, which leads to more beer, a few un necessary words yelled, and finally a bumpin system. My signature is a squeaky clean install, no detail untouched, and nothing at all done half @$$ed like some people do. "good enough" is never good enough for me
