Spl

Just wondering what SPL everbody is hitting? I went to a Db drag race over the summer and I hit 140.6 Db. I am very happy with this because i did not spend a whole lot of money on my system. BTW, Check out the new 2 Ga. wire I got, also I turned the speaker box around and I've noticed its a little louder.

I'm not sure...

Never tested it, but it's in the mid 140's, maybe high 140's. I've had many installers and Guru's tell me that. Heres the system: I'll find some pics later.

Subs: 2- 10 inch rockford punch in .7 cubic feet apiece
2- Kicker Solobarics in .7 apiece
Amps: Rockford Punch 200 (old school) running at 1 ohm ( 400 watts bridged at 4 ohms, running the subs in parrallel, you do the math.) For the Solobarics
Sherwood 75 x4 (dual power supplies and dual cooling fans) 2 channels briged to the 10's run in parallel (250 watts bridged @4ohms, 2 ohm bridged=approx 400 watts)

Boston and Oz audio Highs with another amp (Alpine) and the other 2 Sherwood channels for them.

2 batteries, 1.5 farad cap.

I don't really use the 12's very much, just crank the 10's, they're loud enough.
If i do crank them both, it impairs my driving. I can't breathe first of all, and when I try to read signs, they shake. Last time I had a hearing test I though I was going to need a hearing aid. LOL

BTW: I used to be an installer: I did it all myself.

I hosted a DB Drag at a shop i worked at last summer. I have 1 Memphis HP 10" subwoofer with a Crossfire 1000d and i hit 145.db. That was with amp at 2ohm (500w) gain at 45% bass at 50hz on the Crossover, and volume #25 (out of 35) I had things set a little conservitive since it was a brand new sub and hadnt been properly broken in. Not too bad I say. This 1 HP 10" Is very capable of 148-150db when its properly tuned. I am no longer into systems anymore since i am very happy with mine and got out of the industry. In case you are wondering, my system consists of Kenwood KDC-MP919, Crossfire 354ab, Crossfire 1000d, Memphis Studio 4x6s, Memphis studio, 6x9s, Memphis HP 10" subwoofer. Amps are build into back seat, etc. Blah blah blah, the usual stuff. Yes, I built it all myself. Oh, and the specs on the box, 1.36cu.ft before speaker displacement.

Pics of my setup. http://www.taskerhost.com/gs3/profil...on_profile.htm

I think it is awesome that more people are designing and building their own systems. It is a unique experience and when you show people your system, you can saw "I built it myself" and it boosts your pride when you know you did something that most people don't. Sounds like most of us are hitting 140 Db. I think hitting 140 is good starting point.

Its a hell of a starting point when you are running one 10" woofer. You would not be suprised how many people have told me i must have a hidden subwoofer (when my T-Tops are ready to shatter) I have won competitions over people with 2 decent 12"s on a regular basis. Anything over 148db is just plain deafening and dangerous to your hearing. I hardly play mine at the vaolume anyways, Im into Quality not Quantity. Thats why I only have the one 10

When everybody posts their SPL numbers, it should be mentioned what sanctioning body the SPL numbers comply with. That makes a big difference. USAC outlaw numbers will be WAY different than IASCA measurements.

Anyway... a few years ago my system recorded 141.1 according to IASCA mic placement rules with my Oz 12" subs. If I had tuned the system for SPL and run a larger breaker I'm confident that 143 to 145 could have been attained, but since I had no interest in blowing up my stuff, I didn't push it. 141 was good enough for me considering that those subs are not an SPL sub.

Yeah...

Unless you are going for spl, all you need to hit to get your points is 130 db. At least it was back when I used to go the comps. Some guys would crank their stuff to show off of course. I think it's only 30 points for spl anyway, it's not a big deal in the sound quality competitions.

i went to a comp a few months ago. bout a week or two before the comp, my amp went out and i was forced to use a 200w blaupunkt. still hit a 138.6. come to figure out, i was running my subs at 8 ohms. i was in such a hurry when i replaced the amp, i forgot to rewire the DVCs. they are at 2 ohm now and sound much louder than before. i knew there was something missing but it never accord to me. i cant wait to get a new amp and another comp. sucks not having money. oh and this was db drag.

dont be foolish and listen to ppl who think they have a mic for an ear. if they are saying its in the 140s its probably in the 130s. im not saying it is not a true 140 system, just dont guess on what it is by what "professionals" tell you. most of those guys are just telling you what you wanna hear.

Here is the system in my Expedition.I can't find any of the system I had in my RS. But I metered the RS with 3 MTX 8000 12" subs and a modified MTX 8100D amp in a 4.4 cu.ft enclosure.
