I need your professional opinions... I need 6X9's that will provide good bass...
Whenever I go out shopping speakers.. I always manage to pick out the most expensive ones they have there... which says something I guess... But I figured I'd ask here anyway.
I don't want a sub just yet, nor do I have the money for it... My friend has good Kenwood speakers in his car, and they provide so much music depth it's amazing, they sound so good...
So far I have a Sony X-plod 52X4 cd player, with Kicker Impulse 4X6's... I need something to round out the equation in the back, but something that will provide some bass... more than the stockers do, and more that a few sets of speakers I've heard in stores... (some of these damn 6X9's out there are pretty high up there with the range...)
POLK EX693a speakers boast a woofer, and sell for 160 in stores, but I have not been able to hear them... Plus they peak at 180 watts max, and I will not be amplifying them... I think it would be a waste to get such high-end speakers for a weak unamped deck.
So ultimatly, I'm looking for good speakers that will provide bass, that won't cost a fortune and will work with my unamped deck... Can anyone help me out?

you might look at getting some infinity components rather than 6x9s.. friend of mine has some run off amp power and it sounds like he has a sub in his car.. very nice bass response

I should clarify, and mention... I do not want to buy an amp, and I don't want to put together a component system... this is a very budget project... the more I can geet for my money, the better... Right now I'm looking for some bass to fill out the sound spectrum. Not bass like from a sub, but bass like from a good full range speaker.

I think you mean Mid-Bass. The 4x6 should take care of the high's, the subs will take care of the low bass, but you want something for the middle ... thats where Mid-Bass comes in. Its funny that alot of people dont plan out their Mid-Bass setup, yet 90% of the music you hear comes out on the 'Mid-Bass Speaker' spectrum. The Mid-Bass speakers are the 'most used' speakers in your system.
But anyway, since you dont plan to run amps, and you dont have an EQ, I think you should stick with the same brand that makes the 4x6's ... in this case Kicker. You can shop around for the most expensive, best 6x9's out there but if you're just going to push it off the deck, its pretty much moot. A deck will never push a speaker into the sweet spot like an amp. At most the deck will be pushing 25 rms to the speaker (what is it 52 watts x 4 max? prolly like 20 rms x 4), so you wont hear a difference between a higher quality 6x9 versus the lower quality 6x9. I would just recommend you stick with the same manufacturer and series of speaker you already have. That way you can guarantee all parts of the sound spectrum are covered. From what I've heard, mixing manufacturers of speakers, and even series of speakers can cause less than desirable sound.
If you had an amp it would be a different story (even more so with an EQ), but for the setup you describe you want (budget setup), I think the Kicker 6x9's will be good. Then use the controls on the deck to raise/lower the bass levels in the back to even out the SQ.
Sorry thats the best I can do if you want to stay budget and you want to stay coaxial :-/

You sound excatly like my dad. He was looking for the same sort of deal. What made the difference for him was selecting a quality speaker where the RMS power rating would dip low enough for the deck to move it. He was looking at some high end speakers that were like 100 watts RMS. I made him listen to them off of deck power and they didn't move enough to give him any bass like he wanted. Found a less expensive speaker that had a much lower RMS rating and it sounded much better ran off the deck power because there was enough juice to make it move. Just a thought for you. Kicker has a K series 6 x 9 that would probably work for you.

I used to have 250 watt, 4 way Kenwood 6x9 and they provided great base. But i did have an amp them.
If i were u, i would add a pretty inexpensive 4 channel amp. An amp would do so much for the 4x6's, but it makes a huge difference for 6x9's, especially if u want to hear more bass

I agree. Your deck simply does not push the speakers sufficiently to get good bass out of them. A cheap four channel amp, (check your local pawn shops) will make a world of difference, more so than just replacing the speakers and running them off the deck. It is a lot cheaper, too, since high end 6x9s can be quite pricey.

This might be a shocker to some, but I installed a headunit with 50w x 4 max output in my friend's Sunbird. Hooked up in the back are two AC Delco 6x9s, not stock, but about 3 years old. These speakers push out some serious clean bass from the headunit. I was floored when I popped the trunk and saw they were Delcos. Look into them, I'm sure they're cheaper than Kicker.

I don't really think you can get any decent bass out of the 6x9's... leave that to a sub. Thought about crutchfield.com? Spend $200 and you can pay it off over 4 months...

Well there is a solution. Audiovox 6x9s will do the trick. When i was just starting out with no amp no subs just front speakers and a deck. I purchased the audiovox 6x9s silver series for about 15-20 dollars. I think you can get them at wal mart or somting like that . I placed then in a baffle board in the hatch. The sounded good. Of course outside of the car you couldnt hear
Sh@% but inside they sounded like 8" subs on a low level. These will work good off deck power, they dont like too much power
Sound good but need the whole well in the hatch with a baffle board.
