GTA Aerowing

Has anyone found a Canadian supplier of fiberglass aerowings? I know Hawks and G & T fiberglass which was bought out by North Country fiberglass are the suppliers in the USA. North Country recent told me shipping costs to Canada would be about $140 and with the cost of the aerowing being $340 this brings the price over $500 with taxes and the exchange. I heard at my auto body shop David T’s in Edmonton sells these for $500 but I have not confirmed that for a fact.

Onlt $140 including export? Granted, a hood is bigger & heavier, but they told me $115 to Texas.

Re: GTA Aerowing

I ordered one from Hawk's last summer and as I recall, by the time shipping, brokerage fees, duty and taxes were paid, it came in at about $680.00 for me in Chilliwack - and I acted as my own broker and picked the aerowing up at the boarder!

Agreed, David T's tends to be over priced on most things,

Re: GTA Aerowing

GTA 50 please advise how you acted as the broker. Did you have to cross the border or just pick things up at Canada customs? Being in Victoria it is not practical for me to cross the border.

Re: GTA Aerowing

So I when down to Canada Customs/ Border Service yesterday who gave me the low down on how to save brokerage fees. I have to tell North Country to send it to my auto body shop c/o me for "self clearing" with my address and phone number. Here in Victoria as I guess with many cities everything that crosses the border ends up in a warehouse and either the shipper i.e. UPS or the person receiving the goods can take the customs documents down to Canada Customs. Once they have given their approval you can go back to the warehouse and either pick up the aerowing in this case or have UPS or whoever takes it to your auto body shop. I got this info from Canada Customs/Border Service and the warehouse so if anyone north of the border is reading this and you want to save brokerage fees start by going to talk to customs house nearest you. Of course if you live right on the border there are options to having it delivered to a USA address and bring it across yourself but I live on an Island or you may live far from the border.

Re: GTA Aerowing

To avoid the border fees....

Just have it shipped to a US address....Drive down to get it....Install it on your car (painted or not...Drive home. Even a mismatched body part, shouldn't throw a "flag" of you as a "smuggler".

Re: GTA Aerowing

i do exactly that. I have a buddy that lives just across the border in michigan, but by the time i drive there, i have wasted 100 bucks in fuel plus days off work and all that. so i try to coordinate it so that i order the stuff just intime to go down there on a weekend spend the weekend, take my stuff out of the packaging and put it in my trunk. They cant say anything unless they have proof it was purchased in US, and with it just sitting in my trunk, how can they prove that

But yes, now its coming down to fuel i watch how many times i do that haul. sometimes it just works out better to have it shipped sadly.

Re: GTA Aerowing

Yes I would drive down across the border. However, I live on Vancouver Island and in addition to gasoline their are ferry costs. When I lived in Vancouver I use to trip across the border to Seattle a few times a year. It is a little more costly now.

Hi BC GTA:

I've been out of the country for the past while so only just saw this post. As for acting as my own broker, I got a call from the shipping company that the aerowing had arrived at the Canadian boarder and asking who my broker was or if I wanted to do it myself. The charges I had to pay were about $227 for shipping costs and then around $55 for duty/taxes for the original aerowing cost of $350 (from Hawk's).

The boarder crossing was at the Pacific Crossing in Cloverdale/Langley. So, not that far from Victoria (relatively speaking).

One thing I should mention is that the aerowing be checked over before you accept receipt. If it is in the hands of the shipping company and is damaged, Hawk's will replace. if you get it home and find it damaged, you're on your own.

Best regards,

Gary.
