Car: 87 IROC-Z, 82 Pace Car
Award winning 1987 IROC-Z - $44,900

An award winning, fully loaded 1987 Camaro IROC-Z. When new, this car sold for over $21k. Options include the L98 350, TTops, Leather interior, Bose stereo, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, rear window defroster, intermittent wipers, cruise control, power seats, power hatch release with automatic pull down, auto dimming rear view mirror, overhead console, power antenna, AC and the rear locking hatch cover. 1987 was the first year for leather seating, the first year for the 350, the first year for the Bose stereo system and the last year of the overhead console and of the most desired wheel choice. Also, in 1987, when ordering the 350, it was standard to get the G92 performance axle (3.27 Borg-Warner axle), transmission cooler and four wheel disc brakes. Starting in 1988, these were optional on the 350.

This car made a historic lap around the Daytona International Speedway the morning of the 2009 Daytona 500, being paced by the new 2010 Daytona Pace Car Camaro. It was on display in FanZone during the race. It has also done a lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Some of the awards this car has won are below:

Three Best in Class Awards, four 1st Place awards, and seven Platinum Awards scoring a best of 996/1000 points

This Camaro has been featured in multiple Camaro books and Magazines, including a feature in Hemming’s Muscle Machines, February 2014.

This car was also used on a GM Authorized “Camaro 4 Generations” T-shirt.

The paint is still the factory original and has a beautiful shine. There are a few small flaws in the paint, but that should be expected for a 32 year old car.

This car is a true collector car and is probably one of the best detailed examples around. Current mileage is around 21k.

** I'm not interested in trades of any type. I also don't need help selling the car, so please don't offer. I will not let just anybody drive this car, so no tire kickers. Only serious inquiries please.

I wish I had a 35K lying around...I would love to own this car. Scott, you have one of the most well optioned desirable IROCs I have ever seen. GLWS Scott, hopefully the next owner will treat it as well as you did...this car sure deserves it.

I don’t know if you can find a nicer optioned, better preserved example in total originality that runs and drives perfectly for weekend cruising.. That has to be the nicest original paint anyone will find.. interior as well..

Good Luck with sale! This car presents better than the ones with just a couple thousand miles that you see at dealers..

Re: Award winning 1987 IROC-Z - $34k

I don't know who it is, but it started on Facebook! I better double check my car for claybar residue! Maybe the reflections are photoshopped and the car isn't really as shiny as you see it here. Good news for me is that okfoz is in Orlando today and is stopping by. He can take pictures to prove these are real.

See how that goes, Charlie? I'll let someone take photos to prove my claims!!

Ok, now that i hit the right button to respond lol... Scott, let me preface my comment with the following disclaimer. I've never since 2003 when i joined made any comment that could be taken as derogatory, so please don't take my response as so... But 35k? Your car is sweet. But based on my occasional browsing, i could take my comparable 90k car(same interior and options), spend a couple weekends and a couple grand on i to make it just as nice as yours and get 20k for it? I love that nice original third gens are brining good money. But let's not get greedy here. Glws

Re: Award winning 1987 IROC-Z - $34k

That is about as good as they get, and this one has been well cared for - it really shows. It checks all the right boxes for me, and I think your price is great for today's market. My personal taste only matters to me, and I'm more into the first year thing (1985), but after that ... I think the 87's have everything going for them. Not everyone ordered them like they could have, but this one got it right!

The new owner can enjoy the investment, much more than many other types of investments, and I think this car IS investment grade. Wishing all the best with your sale

I'm sure Scott will correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a one year only car. First year 350 TPI, last year 85-87 style Z28 + B4Z IrocZ option, last year Norwood production. That it has all the desirable options doesn't hurt either, and it's in impeccable condition. Any thirdgen can look good in photos, you can hide a lot as the photographer, or under clay bar residue. Some cars are a class above, this is one of those cars.

I’m not sure you understand car values. This car has something that you cannot achieve. You can’t re-create the original paint in nearly flawless condition to which someone may ask, “where did you get your car repainted?” To which you answer, “it’s original from 1987.”

When someone asks, “oh did you get those seats redone in leather? I’ve never seen them in leather before..” and you respond, “They are original 1987 seats and pretty rare actually..”. You can’t buy that.

Then they realize everything on the car is original from 1987 minus the battery and the oil filter and everything works as it should. It’s not a car with 10 miles on it that sat in a climate controlled museum... It’s been driven and kept as nice as those cars and runs and drives better than those cars. It’s not easy to keep a car like this.

Also, many IROCs that you see “stored for the future” were very low option cars, sometimes without TPI or power windows now on sale with low miles at a high premium. This is one of the highest optioned cars in flawless condition. Closer to perfect than I’ve heard of.

There can’t be another like it. It’s a perfect example.

So yeah. You can spend a bunch of money and get a car to look like THE one in pictures... But anyone that knows anything will be able to tell the difference and knows the difference AND the things that car has that you CAN’T buy...

You cannot buy what this car has! The value is there alone!

I’ve seen much lower mile cars that aren’t as impressive too.

Anyone can make a fake... this is an original. You gotta pay for an original.

I don’t think you understand how the pricing on these cars works...

Its a fair asking price and this is from someone who is a total jerk about haggling down cars.

Well said!

Another thing to mention is the car has scored 996/1000 points. You could never restore a car to that quality....or at least not for less than probably a few hundred thousand bucks, lol

Ain't that the truth!

I picked up my '85 with 35K miles just before it became 35 years old. The original owner kept all the paperwork, including the original purchase with a GMAC loan. He had "appraisals" done about every 7 ~ 10 year, too. You can see how the value slip over the years, and then perked back up more recently. It's a low optioned 5 speed IROC-Z in black, it doesn't even have the rear disc brakes (aluminum drums). He wasn't asking top dollar, and so I didn't haggle much. Fair market for a well kept car is still dollars ahead, not even counting the hours needed to bring one back. They're only original once! My car is nice (not nearly as nice as this one) and some have told me I paid too much, while others say I got a great deal. Everyone loves a third gen. What matters is the seller was happy with the price, and I am happy with what I paid. I have to say, I would gladly have paid more for a nicer car.

Again - they're only original once, there really is no comparison.

Re: Award winning 1987 IROC-Z - $34k

Regarding the one year only, or first year discussion, the 1987 car was the first year for the 350, the only year that the 350 mandated ALL of the G92 options as standard, the first year for leather seats, the first year for the Bose stereo system, the only year to get the 350 and the more desired single spoke wheels, the last year for Z28 designation externally marketed on the IROC-Z, the only year that you could get a yellow IROC-Z with the 350, and as stated, the last year for Norwood built cars.

Also, thanks for the kind words. My car is far from perfect, but it does reflect a very fine example. Perfection is unobtanium for a car.

It has to be the closest example optioned like that... People didn’t order a fully loaded IROC like that just to let it sit for 30 years. You would order that car back in 87 because you couldn’t wait to drive the thing and show it off! The story of how you got it is pretty amazing too. Lord knows what would have became of it if it fell into someone else’s hands...
