Question about 90 camaro front caliper bolt guides

My brakes were dragging after putting the pads on yesterday,I had installed them with the metal wear indicators the wrong way and it appears the squealers hit on the inside of the housing not allowing the pad to fully pull away. I am going to swap them around this morning. I bought the silicone grease mentioned in another thread for the guide pins. What specific areas need to be greased? I know the tips of the bolt ends where it goes through the rubber o rings get lubed. What about the bolt guides shown in the photo below? Are these guides supposed to be lubed inside and outside and are they pushed flush into the o ring where the threads go through?

any photos or advice would help. I’ve never seen those guides pushed out on my other cars before

Re: Question about 90 camaro front caliper bolt guides

When I had taken the pads off the day before yesterday I had noticed that the bolts had some wear at the thread end. And there was some wear inside the two metal guides. The end and shaft were fine. Not sure how critical this is. I did pick up some new bolts and guides this morning though.

If you are talking about the caliper guide pins, I typically see them getting greased up, even when not recommended by the manufacturer. in general, I don't see how it could be hurt to silicone lube anything that is moving on the brake system as long as it doesnt come in contact with the friction surfaces AND it doesnt collect dirt and cause things to start sticking. Here is a really good DIY on brakes, yeah, its not specific to our cars, but some really good info in it that can be applied to any braking system.

Thanks. What about the guide sleeve itself? The part number H5103? Does it get pushed in flush into the rubber o ring the bolt slides through? And does this spacer get lubed inside or outside

I'm not sure. Haven't looked at these brakes in a long time. don't recall. Do you have one side that isn't disassembled yet that you can compare?

Re: Question about 90 camaro front caliper bolt guides

Unfortunately I had taken both of them apart two days ago. Both sides looked this Same and the bolt guys were halfway out of the holes.I don’t recall them ever being that way on the Trans Ams I’ve had. I just wanted to be sure to put them in correctly and lube what’s supposed to be lubed So I don’t have to take thisapart again

Re: Question about 90 camaro front caliper bolt guides

It doesn't look like anything actually slides on the guide pins. do they just help attach calipers to spindle? If so, I would think just grease pivot areas, but not entire bolt.

Re: Question about 90 camaro front caliper bolt guides

I cleaned and lubed everything up. The problem was That the brake pads were installed with the squealers facing the wrong way. They were hitting the caliper not allowing the one pad on the inside on each side to seat correctly so it was dragging
