Stainless Steel Brake Hoses
In the process of installing Russell’s stainless steel 5 piece brake hose set 692370 on my 89 iroc z which came from the factory with 4 wheel disc. Front worked perfect and been driving it for a few weeks. Now, the car is back on jacks and I am working on the rear end. It looks like the center and left side hoses will work, but the right side hose is way too long. Called Russell’s tech line and they said I must have lines and hose out of an 88 or earlier. Curious if anyone else has ran into this issue? Trying to decide how I am going to resolve this.

Re: Stainless Steel Brake Hoses
So are they saying the long hose is for cars with the staggered rear calipers...where the passenger side caliper is hung to the front, thus needing a longer hose?

Re: Stainless Steel Brake Hoses
Not sure what the difference is and that is one of the reasons for my post. My calipers are not staggered. Curious if anyone has pictures of how they routed the Russell rear hoses to their PBRs.

Re: Stainless Steel Brake Hoses
The pre-89 calipers are cast-iron, and are "staggered". (side note: they did it this way so that the 2 calipers can be identical, rather than being mirror images, thereby reducing mfg costs etc.)
Basically you have the wrong lines.
Since the fronts are the same from 84 - 92 except for the 1LE option, those aren't a problem.
Personally I would suggest not using Russell anyway; they are well and widely known to be the crap of the crap. They very commonly fail by way of the hose part popping off of the fittings. They have also been know to break off, by way of the hose nipple part that fits up into the hose, breaking off of the body of the fitting.
Use ANY OTHER brand that you can find. Earl's used to be the go-to but they've discontinued the sets for these cars. (that's what I have) Somebody is still making them but I can't recall who.
Google would probably know though.
