pbr's on a 1988
Are the pbr's a direct bolt on with nothing else to do on a 1988 9 bolt with disk brakes?

Yup; the backing plates bolt to the same flange on the housing.

Can I assume that the direct bolt on is limited to 1992? And the e brake cables are a story in itself?

I should mention however, that 10-bolt backing plates won't fit a 9-bolt, or vice-versa. So if your 88 is a 9-bolt, you'll have to come up with the 1-yr-only 89 9-bolt PBR backing plates. But they bolt right up, same as the Saggy backing plates that are there now.
