Brembo + Ronal R15

I've been researching on how to get Brembos to fit inside my Ronal wheels; initially I wanted to use the caliper and rotor setup that the Firehawks came with. After months of research I'm pretty sure that not possible. What are my other options? Has anyone else fit Brembos under Ronal r15s?

Re: Brembo + Ronal R15

I got Porsche 993 turbo brakes on my iroc with R15s.
322mm rotors, Big Red calipers, its a tight fit.

Do you have pics? How did you get that kit to work?

There are literally dozens of Brembo kits (combinations of calipers and rotors) that you can use these days - need to be very specific...

BTW, 322mm rotors are just under 13", which as red1989iroc describe them as tight, would warrant extreme investigation.

Right. The R-15's have poor caliper clearance so you need a high offset rotor. 13" rotors should be just fine for a 17" wheel (although I have never looked at an R-15 wheel in person.) The biggest issue is with back of wheel spoke to caliper face. I believe the firehawk calipers, like all of the Porsche Brembo calipers are radial mount. So designing a bracket is quite easy compared to a lug mount caliper.

John,

A local friend has a set of R-15's and has brought them by the shop to look and try out.

You are correct to think that the caliper face to rear of spoke clearance is poor - it is. But I did some measuring and noticed that the barrel of the wheel gives about 1/2" less clearance than the CTW Motorsports wheels (which are ultra generous in that dimension). In the case of 13" rotors, not a problem - but anything larger than 13.25" won't fit either.

I figure it this way - in 1990 or 1991 when the wheels were designed, the biggest brake rotor you could get on any car was a 13" one on a 911T or Ferrari, so clearance was not an issue with the 10.5" or even 1LE 12" brakes. They worked with the Brembos on the Firehawk nicely also. But in 2013 with small brake kits at 13" and having kits pushing 14" or even 15", the fitment can be tricky.

I don't think the adaption of a 4 piston Brembo would be all that more complicated than the Wilwood kit you make already. Question is the price and therefore "bang for the buck".

Re: Brembo + Ronal R15

It's just like the ls1 brake swap, just another adapter for the caliper.

Re: Brembo + Ronal R15

That's fantastic looking; which rotor did you use? They look like the two piece brembo rotor, but with an OEM hub. Did you machine down a hub out of some old rotors and mount the Porsche outer to it?

Right. At the end of the day they are all a hunk of aluminum. The Wilwoods work very well and are affordable and light. I would love to make a custom set of radial mount Brembos, but who would buy it when the Wilwoods are so good for so little.

I have brackets designed for a few different Wilwood and AP Racing radial mount calipers. Just need a customer.

There are already so many brake options for these cars.

Re: Brembo + Ronal R15

I'd buy it; I've been searching for this solution for months. I was -this- close to buying a brembo f50 kit for a mercedes just so I could try and adapt it to my car. I just don't have the tools, or the time to mock it up and do it.

Re: Brembo + Ronal R15

It's 993 rotors over cut down stock rotor/hub. I also schimsed out the hub 1mm, no wheel spacer needed. The porsche bolt hols are lenghtned to fit chevys bolt patern.
Two more pics before they were painted and mounted, last pic is of the rear...

Re: Brembo + Ronal R15

Nice I have a similar setup, Although mine uses 993 discs, but has 996 TT calipers, its a tight fit, but works.

Is this a mock up only picture? If not, is there a good reason the calipers have been mounted upside down?
