I have aftermarket wheels that have minimal offset, and i was wondering how far away the wheel needed to be from the caliper to be safe. The spokes on my wheels, curve inward and just touch the very top of the face on my the C5 calipers. Pretty sure whatever size spacer I use will be the distance between the caliper and wheel, my wheel is just barely touching the top curve on the caliper face. Would 3/16" or a 1/4" be enough clearance? Is there a minimal required distance?

Another question, strictly out of curosity. Do other brake setups have less caliper overhang (if thats the correct term?) then a C5 setup? The C5 setup fits my wheels nicely, the caliper almost aligns perfectly in the "windows" of the wheel design. I'm just wondering if a C4 13" brake setup has less distance between the rotor face and the face of the caliper, at it furthest distance outward. Thats what I mean by caliper overhang, though I'm not sure thats what its called. I know the HD C4 rotor is slightly bigger, but it looks like the caliper itself rests more over the rotor than a C5 caliper, so I wonder.

3mm is recommended. That is about 1/8".

I am struggling to understand what you are talking about regarding the overhang. C4HD rotor is 13" vs 12.8" on the C5/C6. The C4HD rotor is more offset, so there is more caliper face to back of wheel spoke clearance.

Thanks...I was speaking of the distance between the rotor face and face of the caliper, and how far forward/back the rotor face/caliper face was. The C4HD rotor having more offset answers my question. I was wondering if it offered more wheel spoke clearance, but you answered that. Would you happen to know difference in offset between the two? I dont mind a thin spacer since I dont need too much clearance, but if I could eliminate any spacers down the road, that would be nice. If the rotor has more offset, are the wheels pushed out farther with a C4HD setup compared to the C5/C6 setup?

I don't have the numbers handy, but it should be at least 1/2". There is no difference in where the wheel sits, it is only moving the rotor friction surface inboard. So your conversion bracket will need to compensate.
