How to remove stuck rear rotor??
How to remove stuck rear rotor on a 89 iroc-z with disc brakes? Can i tap them with a hammer to break them loose, or is there something else i must do to get them off. Replacing them.

wack it with a mallet. if your replacing it then dont worry about the rotor. wack the outside of the rotor around the edges. should break loose.
just make sure u have everything off... brake calipers and u take the spindle nut and washer/bearing out.
new rotors will need rear seals for the back of the rotor, and check your bearings for wear. new grease on spindal/inside rotor. bearings should be packed with grease properly. dont forget to clean the rotor surface where the pad contacts the rotor with brake clean (they put oils on it so it doesnt rust in package, this will cause glazing and NO friction if not cleaned off)

Once the assembly is removed, take BFH and whack away. Reinstall new rotors and pads (I assume you'll be doing that), and bolt up.

Re: How to remove stuck rear rotor??
While i typically agree with the BFH approach, however i have encountered some rotors that even a 10lb sledge failed to loosen. The ultimate removal method is to find a decently large bolt (3/8 or 7/16 works well) and the corresponding tap, drill the correct size hole through JUST the hat of the rotor, tap the hole for the correct threads, and crank the bolt down (surprisingly little force on the bolt is necessary). It works every time and prevents me from having to take a hammer to my car

Re: How to remove stuck rear rotor??
yea most new cars that ive worked on have that already drilled in. still i wouldnt drill holes in my rotors(the hat) id be too afraid to drill though and hit my axle and why make extra work... 1-2 hits with a 5lb-10lb dead hammer and it just falls off. ive had no issues removing them ever. helps if your alil frustrated too
