Bulk Seam Sealer
For easy to reach open areas I have some 3M for use in a caulking gun however I have some areas that can't be reached with the caulking style gun. For example, in the area inside the cowl (where the wiper bars are located) I need to reach in and maybe apply with a spatula, brush, or tongue depressor all the way to the fenders on both sides. Doing the floor pans and parts of the firewall, I will need a lot of seam sealer so bulk makes more sense. Anybody have a recommendation for bulk sealer maybe in a gallon can and/or a special applicator for hard to reach places? Thanks.

Re: Bulk Seam Sealer
In times when I've had to do something like that, (not working on cars, but working on aircraft,) I've used I think 3/8" or 1/2" ID soft aluminum tubing of varying lengths and shapes, (bend to fit a specific area,) and slipped the end on the caulking tube nozzle. You kinda waste a good bit that remains in the tubing after your done, but the finished product is a good deal neater and cleaner, and so are your hands.
A good sealer that you can buy in bulk, (Quart, Gallon, etc.,) is the stuff I actually used on aircraft. Mich better than RTV or anything like that. If you search the Mil Spec on the Internet, you'll find it. It's paintable too.
MIL-S-8802.

I used Eastwood brush on seam sealer for the cowl area. It goes on pretty thick and levels itself out. Worked great for that area and a few spots under the hood.

For the rest of the seams, I used 3M urethane. Need to also use the 3M applicator gun. This stuff is really good. Will hold up much better than the original stuff that dries out and falls off.

I used Evercoat brushable seam sealer and it worked really well. Just applied it with a cheap chip brush from the hardware store. I think it was a quart size can and probably only used about 10% of it to seal up a bunch of patches I welded in along with replacing dry rotted factory stuff. For filling gaps I used Dynatron 550.

Re: Bulk Seam Sealer
Thanks for the ideas. I thought about using an extension tube. Maybe I can use that to get a bead in there and then brush over that to smooth it out and get enough into the joints. I noticed that there were two different sealers on my car. Directly under the cowl opening the sealer appears almost like tar but running down the sides of the cowl to the fenders it is a more firm and hard sealer. I now have all the sealer out of the lap joint between the cowl and the firewall.
