3-part rear window louver setup
These add-ons make the car look great. They are kind of expensive, so I was wondering if this is a DYI job or should it be sent out to a pro?

Re: 3-part rear window louver setup
What part? There are many types of louvers. The factory one-piece look is made up of all the individual slats and two ABS side pieces. Then there's the aftermarket one-piece look made up the same as the factory set, then there's the 3 piece look that has horizontal slats in the middle, and side metal pieces that don't look right in my opinion.
The factory set is easy to install and doesn't take any skills or parts removal to install. The aftermarket sets could require the top window bolts be removed to hold a metal strip that the louvers attach to. If you're not comfortable doing the window bolts, pay someone to do it. It's very basic and simple to put together, if needed, and install.

Re: 3-part rear window louver setup
Thank you for the reply, Scott
These are the types of louvers that I sourced from Classic. They vary based on third brake light and if aero-wing.is installed. Do these resemble the factory setup that is easy to install? Or should I look elsewhere?
Not comfortable removing window bolts.

Re: 3-part rear window louver setup
The 1st set resembles the factory louvers the best, however, I don't know how these install as they are still aftermarket. Kobell and Cragar both made sets that look similar to these back in the 80s, and I know for a fact that one of them required the window bolts to be removed for a metal strip to be installed.
The factory set used 6 clips that would slide over the window trim. The top 2 clips had double sided tape that stuck the mounting screw plates to the glass. No screw removal needed. There were an additional 2 clips that sat on the glass, secured with double sided tape, at the bottom. So you had 8 total clips. 6 that slid over the edge, 2 that sat on the glass, and the top 2 and bottom 2 had double sided tape. Easy install. I have no idea how these aftermarket sets get installed. Be sure to find out before you buy and that will dictate if you install them, or someone else will.

Re: 3-part rear window louver setup
Thank you Scott, very helpful information. Ill try to get a guy from Classic on the phone to see if they can explain the install.
Probably will go to a body shop guy I know and try to get a estimate. I don't really mind dropping up to a gnote to get the upgraded look. I have a T-Top model and they look awesome with the louvers. I was curious why you sold those two built out 3rd gens in 2021. It was the stupid pandemic that was raging that year so it makes sense I suppose. Do you have other 3rd gens? or have you bought any since then?
thanks again for the replys your a go to guy

Built out? Those cars were bone stock! Well, the '82 did have minor suspension upgrades and an aftermarket cat, but...
I sold both cars because they didn't get enjoyed any longer. The car show scene and cruises in the Orlando area aren't what they used to be and the local club has pretty much dissolved. I thought the market was right to sell and the timing was right for someone else to start enjoying the cars. My son is grown now and has no interest in these cars. I enjoyed it while he was young, but it was time to move on. And no, I have nothing now. Just my daily, a '21 Ram Rebel 4x4 and a '22 Audi S4

Thats understandable Scott. Prices for 3rd gens are on the uptick as forum users have pointed out. I have four sons 19-29 and they all have their eye on my 89 t-top model Firebird!
