Windows go down very very slow

Hi all, looking for advice from you well experienced people. I have a 1992 Camaro convertible and my electric windows both go down very slowly. So my question is, how can i fix this issue or what most likely is the problem, do i need a new motor, or a motor and regulator and the window sometime shifts down on one side slightly more when going down. What advice can you give me on what to buy where i don't waste unnecessary money on parts i don't need.
Also, the doors rattle so much and loud when hitting any bumps on the road.

Thanks all

Read this, it should be a sticky.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...servation.html

With the slow window motors if your patient you could try to lubricate the window channels with white lithium grease and see if that improves it. It helped mine out a bit when I was in there cleaning up the power lock actuator and assembly which btw just cleaning with wd40 and then lube with white lithium grease worked amazing.

LSX Matt has a good video on YouTube if you just want to replace the motors, he has a few tips to really make it an easy job.

this might sound stupid, but what are the window channels ? I was reading that someone used brake cleaner in some hole not sure where.

Sorry I should have said the tracks where rollers go, you can see them when the panel is off and you run the windows up and down. Mine were really dry on the passenger side.

What you are referring to is a hole in the actual motors I believe. I do not know where that is, but I’ve seen a thread where someone did that and it worked. I do not know if I would use brake cleaner though if it was me.

I can't say mine were going down really really slowwwwww, but I did think to open up the doors and clean out that track, after all it is 32 years old, been collecting dust and grease does get dried up and gummy. so went in there, cleaned it up meticulously, and then added new grease. did this really to save the window motors. anyway, saw a speed improvement.

Far as the door rattling, make sure its not your rubber door seal that is old and not sealing well. after that, check your hinges. these seem to be common areas. after that, door lock, that was my problem. what I did, was jam some rubber vac hose in there to tighten it up when closed. had a bad rattle on the passenger side, not on driver. couldn't explain it, but this did the trick. no after market door locks for 89 or 90 and up. forget the exact year.

Re: Windows go down very very slow

These cars have.....they are just....slow windows lol.

You can maybe try new motors on top of al lthe above...basically get them as good as they were new. Put maybe a little silicone where the glass touches the weatherstrip too to help it go up..replaceing the belt moulding with a fresh set can help.... i removed mine for paint and the window goes up faster without it if its hard and pushing hard against the glass......

but after al lthat work, you are not going to see speeds remotely close to newer cars... or even cars from the 80s / 90s lol

There was a thread about using a newer Beretta window motor...but i dont think that went anywhere....

That might have been me, old thread and the pic is gone. Its a temporary fix that last a few months, but i still used it occasionally. Till i got the window racer.

I would watch the LSX Matt video on YouTube and disassemble and clean and lube everything. These windows are much slower than Fords to begin with GM did that on purpose because faster ones had a tendency to jump track. Replace whatever needs it.

Re: Windows go down very very slow

Compared to modern cars, unmodified, they will be slow. Power windows were just slower back then.

My car hadn't been driven a lot in the prior decade when I bought it. The windows worked, but really slow. I was afraid they'd quit complete. But they've gotten faster over the past 4 years just from regular use.
