Air breather hitting hood

Need advice on a problem. I just purchased a 89 rs that has built 350 in it,it's currently at the body shop for a complete paint job, and the hood is hitting the wing nut on the breather, hood framework has been cut away. Body man said we can put some kind cowl(suggestions?)on it,but I can't find any that aren't huge.Does anyone know of a smaller profile breather that would be an option? It has a Demon carb on it. Another thing I'm looking for is the rear bumper rs decal. Thanks for reading. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Air breather hitting hood

I'm assuming you mean the air cleaner. The intake manifold has the most to do with the overall height of the carb and air cleaner. Performance intake manifolds are typically taller than stock, so hood clearance can become an issue. Not sure what you have already, but there are low profile drop base air cleaner assemblies available from lots of manufacturers. The stock air cleaner is a low profile drop base type, however it flows very poorly through the single intake snorkel, barely enough for the stock motor. My guess is you have some type of open element air cleaner on there now. Take a look at Summit Racing or Jegs. Take some measurements of the one you have and see if something shorter is available, or the previous owner may have already done that and it's already as low profile as it can be. If that's the case, then your solutions would be to either change the intake manifold, or change the hood.

For the rear bumper emblem/sticker, Hawks has them. There are probably other sources as well.

You should post pics, really need more info but it’s probably just a case of needing a drop base air cleaner

Re: Air breather hitting hood

if the engine was swapped, take a look at the engine mounts. I've heard of people on this site saying that the poly ones sometimes make the engine sit a bit higher than the stock rubber ones.
