Fog lights with Sport Coupe fascia

Has anyone put factory fog lights behind the louvered grille that the sport coupe features? It appears to be quite difficult to source a open style grille that the Z/28 or IROC has and even if I could it possibly won't fit my fascia.

It's not that difficult to find them, as many companies sell new ones. They aren't cheap, though. If you put them behind the louvers, they won't look right. I ran into this with my 90 RS. I just ended up putting a Z-28 facia in instead. It will fit your sport coupe front.

Re: Fog lights with Sport Coupe fascia

I guess I should have been more clear in the original post. This is a dead base v6 1987 Sport Coupe in silver and gunmetal. Everybody has an RS, Z/28 or IROC I have no desire to convert it to look like something it's not. I have a pair of PIAA rectangular fog lights mounted behind the grille now and was thinking oem ones would throw out a little more light. I'll probably end up keeping the PIAA lights as they don't look too bad, but I was hoping someone may have done it with oem fogs and has a picture or found they straight up won't fit.

Re: Fog lights with Sport Coupe fascia

Mine are 'hidden" behind 84 Berlinetta/Coupe grills: (sorry - old pic ! )

I had no choice but to hide them, they are factory lenses and the 82-84 nose wasn't designed for fog lights. ( no mounting holes, bad mounting bad height, bad "depth", ect... ) The 85-87 front impact bar should have the fog light mounting holes allowing the fog lights to be mounted at the proper high and depth, but you'd need to mount them father "back" in order to hide them behind the factory 85-87 non-fog grill.

FYI: Coupe/Berlinetta/LT fog light mounting brackets are NOT the same as Z28/IROC fog brackets !!

Re: Fog lights with Sport Coupe fascia

Thanks! That's exactly the information I was looking for. I do have the mounting holes in the impact beam. Now that I'm not 18 anymore and have some fabrication and welding skills I'll probably make up some well fitting brackets for the PIAA lamps. Provided they still work it's only been 16 years since they last were used...

I hope that it works out,..... Post some pics once you've got them re-installed so we can see how they look behind that 85-87 grill !
