Any painters in the house? Paint code help

So Ive been searching for info on a new paint for my car. I'm looking at specifically Mazda soul red crystal the code is 46v from what I have found. So the difficultly so far is I cant find the code for the tinted clear coat. I was at a dealer paint shop today and asked them a few questions about it. All they could tell me was the base code formula for the 46v. Now mazda has a soul red metallic and a soul red crystal for 2018. What I've gathered is the difference is the tinted clear coat in the crystal version.

There won't be a separate code for the tinted clearcoat. On a mixing computer, searching 46V will show you how to mix both the groundcoat and the tinted clearcoat. I spray PPG and they have a clearcoat additive called VM4350 Vivid Ruby Tinter that is added to the clearcoat to make the candy midcoat. Its very expensive - around $100 per ounce if I remember correctly (sold in 4 ounce containers) though so little of it is used that you might be able to paint a whole car with 4 ounces of additive.

Offhand I don't know anything about the new Mazda colors but I'll try to remember to look it up for you this week when I'm back at work.

That is great info.. Thank you.. My paint guy just told me today that the soul red crystal paint code is 41v. But the one you posted looks right with the tinted clear. I am so confused with this color right now. I think Im gonna have to go to the dealer and get the code off the door jamb myself. Im pretty sure the 46v is the right one though.

41V was used from 2012 and up so I'm not sure if its the one you're thinking of. Some variants of it are mixed with tinted clear and some are traditional tricoats. Turns out I don't have the 2018 books yet so I can't check to see if there is a new mazda color aside from 41V and 46V.

46v says 2017 and up. I'm assuming later 2017 for the 2018 model year

I realize I'm late to this guy's problem. But from reading I think I can add some help for future parties. Sprayed this color alot. I've made many variants. It's an easy color once you understand it. I saw one guy say the midcoat is very expensive. And it can be, if you are looking to hit that Mazda color perfectly. But the good news is you don't have too. Any red/violent transparent toner can be your midcoat. It just needs to be a dark burgundy toner. It's not the midcoat that makes 46v, it's the base color. Which is an orange, bronze with a copper hue. The variants you can create without the midcoat activators and hardeners and specialty toners is still beautiful and just as cool. And nearly identical, and hundreds cheaper.

From not being a painter I appreciate this input. What you guys do is definitely a learned skill that doesnt happen overnight

!! I wound up going with GM anniversary red pearl. Figured it would a way easier match if I had a mishap and had to do touchup or blend later.
