Hood having trouble opening 'releasing' from body of car

Hey all so recently (past 2 years or so) my cars hood has gotten stick. The cable pulls from inside the car easily, but when i go up front, the hood didnt 'pop' off like it used to. I have to stick my fingers under the hood and wiggle it until it pops up, and then i can release the latch? Any ideas? It started about two years ago and slowly gotten worse. Now its really bad i have to sit there for 10-15 seconds wiggling kind of aggressively now. The hood shocks are still pretty strong because once i actually release the latch the hood will pop right open.

Thanks all for your time and advice!

Clean your hood latch. After it's cleaned, lubricate it lightly. Clean motor oil is what the owners manual recommends for the hood and door latches, hinges, etc. These things are supposed to be lubricated on a regular interval, but "oil your locks every 3,000 miles" doesn't sell the latest high mileage synthetic super lube, so people never think about it.

WOW! ok i spent 5 mins with some brake cleaner cleaning the latch, and then literally grabbed one of my opened oil quarts and literally just dabbed my finger inside and wiped the latch with the oil on my finger and that did it! its popping open as soon as i release the handle inside the car.

Thanks Drew!!

I had the same issue for over 5 years. I went through the same monthly clean/lube cycle until I was fed up with it. I found a replacement one available from Summit Racing. I'm going to attempt to provide a direct link below in case you need it.
