As many of you know... this front nose and rear bumper were trash... after many many many hours of prep she is ready to go all blue😁. Fingers crossed I’m hoping to have the entire car painted by June... stay tuned

Amazing work! You're a better man that I. Man! You really resurrected that IROC. I feel blessed that I'm starting with such a rust-free car. You're doing a great job!

And what's up with the red IROC outside with the light bar on it?

Tony Huntimer

Thanks for the kind words man! As far as the red IROC, that car is such a conservation starter, lol. So many people ask about that thing. The red car is a parts car that I’m just about down with. I build police cars for my agency so I have a ton of light bars sitting around. One day I ran out of room to put old equipment and it got placed there... that was 3 years ago HAHAHA.

Awesome! I thought you were going to build an IROC B4C cop car. I originally wanted to do that with my '86.

Another quick q on the pro flo; the an fittings into the fuel rails, given there isn’t a 37deg flare in the rails, what did you do to ensure a good seal between the fittings and the rails?

they are actually regular AN fittings used for “power steering” work great, no leaks and didn’t lose any pressure.

great- I'm a little dubious given the non flare receiver but great to know you've had no issues

Re: 1987 IROC- Z Restoration (Start to Finish)

Quick update... took a few days off to work on the car. A lot of progress but still not over the finish line.

Finally got the entire car wet sanded and buffed.

Slowing putting it back together

Headlight buckets painted

All new Weather stripping going in.

Well... heading to the final lap it seems. Body work is FINALLY done. Every panel was wet sanded and three stage buffed. Nose is on... windshield in. Carpet is unboxed and starting to lay into place. Plan is to have baby girl to the DMV before August. Here are some sneak peeks.

planning a good photo spot once it’s all said and done. Thanks to all you kept with thus thread, I’m super excited to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

First time taking these out since I had them refinish in 2014!!!

Stripes are all on

About the toss the hood on for the last time

Re: 1987 IROC- Z Restoration (Start to Finish)

took a day off from work to get started in the interior... tedious stuff.

Finally refinished the air box

Fabricated the intake from 3” PVC and Plumbing adapters. Lol.

ACC carpet is in and trimmed... they are super generous with how much they give you. Matched the plastic carpet pretty good

Headliner in and upper console in.

I tried to find 87 interior but couldnt... the original plan was to go with 4th gen leather seats but I decided to go more sleeper/ original appearance. Some time in the future I’ll get the seat redone with 87 covers, just not in the budget right now.

What excellent work, love the results. When the time is right I recommend Lethal Interiors for your seat covers. Princess is meticulous with the details and your car is worthy of her work.

awesome work ! Amazing! I’m following everything you did so I can do the same to my 87 shell.

that being said, for undercoat and interior deadener, how did you prep under the car and the interior? Thank you!

any chance you'd be willing to make another set of those dollies (minus the casters) ? I tried to PM but my account seems to be all janky - there for a moment I couldn't even comment on threads lol

dude i know im late , but man what focus u have , i just bought a 87 & it needs floors inner rocker , spare tire compartment , etc , your documentation , is a true inspiration , , i was told to sell it for a parts car , but it had 1 owner & is a 87 iroc , and after looking around , surprisingly few for sale , in the inexpensive range , the nice start at 12 n go to 30 , thought about a rust free body , but then its not the same car anymore

if you have the skills and ability to fix it yourself... DO IT! These things are skyrocketing in value, if I wasn’t trying to build a 77 SE Trans Am I would’ve kept it. But unfortunately had to let it go... but I did very well on mine and I know it went to a good home to be pampered. The days of these being thrashed by some kid are fading and they are entering collector territory. Good luck man!
