Gas tank leaking from fuel pump door
I have a fuel odor coming from the top of my tank. When the car is running I can smell fuel coming from the fuel pump door. I have a new gasket for the fuel pump door. I have a fuel pump acess panel so I am able to tell exactly where the odor is coming from.
How can I fix this leak?

Sounds to me like you have a bad seal on your gas cap or the vent hose has come loose.

Or coming off the top of the tank?
Hard to tell where fuel leak us by smell, any seeping or dripping?
If it's just a smell it may not even be a fuel leak, could be vapors from the pressure relief or evap system leak.

Re: Gas tank leaking from fuel pump door
I get a smell of gas at the rear of my car, after I have turned it off, or when it is running, not sure where it is coming from, but I do smell it around the gas cap too...the cap looks OK, but they are cheap enough I am going to get another one with a lock on it.
What else could it be? I see no visible leaks...but gas evaporates fast, so it is hard to tell. I don't seem to be losing any gas according to my guage, other than when I am heavy on the throttle lol

Re: Gas tank leaking from fuel pump door
Probably a cracked filler neck at the tank. Very common in our cars and was a recall back in the day that supposedly didn't expire. My local dealer would not honor the recall as they could not determine if recall had been completed.

Could be that, but more likely the vent valve that is inside the wheel house. Supposed to hold a little positive pressure, but when fails smells like gas all the time. Lots of threads on the forum about it

Take your car to a shop that has smog check equipment. They have a probe that they can use to sniff for hydrocarbons to diagnose exactly where the leak is coming from. While you are at it they can weld up the the "fuel pump access panel" that someone cut into your car.
