I did some heavy research, and it seems like a bad idea to run 4 point harnesses in a street car, with the most important being in the case of a roll over. If your car rolls, and the roof is crushed, the 4 point harness keeps you in an upright position, which could cause death, or serious spinal injury. While the stock 2 pt belt lets you slouch over.

Now my question is,

If I ran quality racing seats, a 4pt harness,with a rear hoop like what is pictured below, would this be safer than stock in a rollover scenario? Key being the roll bar is installed properly with plates big enough so it doesnt puncture the floor.

I would think so, since the roof would not have the tendency to collapse. and the 4 point keeps you in your seat.

What about street crash scenarios such as T-bone or other collisions, would the roll bar hinder safety, assuming that there is plenty of head clearance? If I had a roll bar, I would position toward the rear more in order to gain more head room.

This, minus the door bars.


Pretty much, preventing something like this.


The car is my daily driver, but will see the drag strip, auto cross, and track days at road atlanta.


What are your thoughts? I'd like input from the guys that really have experience.

Generaly, a roll bar on the street is a bad idea. In an accident your head can whip around and hit the hoop above you. Now....I know you're thinking, "What if I'm strapped in?". Yes, even if you are strapped in you can make contact with the bars.

If you do a search around the boards you'll find this has been covered many times...in many threads that often end up getting closed.

As to leaving the door bars out. Don't. They are there for a reason, to provide support to the main hoop in case of a roll over.
