New style front bumper

Has anyone tried this bumper?

http://www.yourhotcar.com/prod/Extreme_Dimensions/Body_Kits_&_Conversions/Front_Bumper/Pontiac_Firebird_Duraflex_Xtreme_Front_Bumper_Cover_-_1_Piece_-_103705/902369/#

I have a '91 Firebird Formula. Curious whether anyone has tried it or not. If so, how well does it fit? Any modifications needed?

Re: New style front bumper

I think it takes away the clean lines and styling of our third gens and turns them into a rice rocket Ricky racer wanna be. I wish there were more options for us in the after market though. There have been many here that have customized bumpers themselves that look much better.

Wow i have honestly never seen so many judgemental people in one area...this is ridiculous. I asked if anyone has used it and all i see is people dissing not only the bumper but me also. Tell you what...if you can find another bumper besides factory for this damn car...please by all means say so. Otherwise if u have an opinion that will insult someone keep it to yourself. Thanks

Re: New style front bumper

Hm, it's not my cup of tea but to each his own when it comes to cars I suppose. Personally I love the stock noses on the thirdgen camaros (though I must say that I don't on the firebirds).

I think if the grills were a flat black or something a little less flashy it may look better. But seeing as these are bottom-breather cars having all that open space is what makes it look out of place. If you kept those lines but made the openings smaller (and maybe the driving lights bigger?) I think it would fit much better.

Re: New style front bumper

I am by no means bashing you or the style of the bumper per say but I've heard horror stories of the quality and fit of anything Duraflex. I have no personal experience but have been around the message boards since I first started getting into customizing my car(s) and have never once read a good review of their products. I'd be very cautious if I were you. That's my 2 cents.

Re: New style front bumper

See? Those are answers that are useful. Thank you very much. I guess ill just do some repair and customization of my stock bumper. Anyone know what kind of body filler type stuff works or plastic? Im sure i could just fiberglass the whole thing but that would make it much bigger that normal and would look terrible

You have to realize where you are. Most guys (most that is) that are on here are on here because they like cars that were popular 20-30 years ago when they were kids watching Knight Rider or tooling around with them in HS. Like me for example, I love my car BECAUSE it's old, so putting an after market bumper like that on it to modernize and make it look that drastically different would make no sense in that light. Hence the jokes and posts. Engine swaps, brake upgrades, wheels and etc are one thing, but changing the whole look of the car in that way might tend to not go over as well on here generally. Most guys in this forum probably feel that way, although I'm sure there are exceptions. But if I had been looking over your shoulder when you clicked "new discussion" for this, I'd have warned you that it might be taboo in some quarters. So in that regard the reaction isn't surprising. If I were you I wouldn't take it too personally and just move on with my next question. Peace!

Re: New style front bumper

If you did the wide-body rally kit for a firebird, you could pull this nose off. Otherwise, not sure if I like it or not.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...-grafting.html

Here is a link of what I have done to mine. I have tried to keep it "third genish". they are right tho, the previous comments. I would say 90% of the peeps on here are stright up keep it origonal. There are a few who like to tweak it here and there. I also think that is really good. you get a good mix of oppinions, and if you dont take them too personaly you can learn alot from the people here. There have been alot of comments on what i have done, which were totaly against what i was doing. but still gave an oppinion and it helped me decide on what to do.

I also have a thread on how i did all the plastic work if your interested.

Were trying to help you not get laughed at. However, if you're TRYING to make your car look like something a sick elephant excretes, this may be a successful modification for you.

We'll, I try not to be insulting to anyone, but I do think a small intervention may be in order. I used to own a 91 Formula, please don't do this to a 91 Formula--that has beautiful lines all on it's own. That all I got to say......Peace bro!

Re: New style front bumper

From a non firebird owner, I have heard Duraflex stuff is really tough to get to look right. Most aftermarket parts are a royal pain in the butt already.

I took a look at the pic. Personally, I think it would be a step backward. But again, I am a Camaro guy, you might think a Camaro is a step backward. =)

I think the reason you can't find any aftermarket changes really is because most people are quite happy with how it looks originally.

Now you could go really crazy and customize a 4th gen firebird bumper on it!

Re: New style front bumper

I don't think anyone was intending to attack you personally. And we are not all about being original. Mods are great, and the custom bumpers that guys on here have made themselves are great and gives the car something unique. I think we are more about doing our own thing with our own creativity. That's all we are saying.

Absolutely. The Banshee nose, the hood scoop, the bubble tail lights.....How could you ask for more? I like the 82 because I've always been a Knight Rider fan, (which after KR modified snout, looks more like a 91-92!) but I still think my 92 is better looking over all. After I watch a KR dvd occasionally, I go out and look at my own and it's like being a kid again! No way I'd trade that for any off the wall modification. Me and these cars have a history that goes back to being 13 years old. My favorite Christmas present ever was a 1/16 scale 82 Firebird that looked almost exactly like the 92 I now own! It's in pieces in a box upstairs, but I still have it. If I can find all the pieces, I'd like to restore IT too.
