Honeycomb Tail lights, anyone interested ?

Honeycomb Tail lights, anyone interested ?

Hi, i have 87 Trans Am with GTA tail light grid delamination problem, so i have been in contact with Mark at 6Ledesigns and asked if they could make a new clear lens with honecomb pattern, as they do this for 93-97 T/A´s

I got a reply today: "Hmmmm.... if you can round up ten people ready to order (for a group pre-purchase of 10 the lenses would be $300 a set and then honeycomb would be $50) we will make them"

So, anyone interested ??

Nope. The grid tailights on third gens are one of its best features.
I don't understand the desire to put 4th gen stuff on a third gen.
Third gens are one if the best looking cars out there and not all that common anymore.
Why do you want to make it look like one of the ugliest cars ever made of which there are many driving around?

Because my grid is delamineted several places, and my tail lights look warped - like sh$t.
As i have understood, there is no real way to fix this.. :-( If i´m wrong, please give some input.

I guess they can make a clear lens with the same grid pattern as the oem lights, if this is a better option for average joe...

Just go to eBay and get third gen replacements, they are all over the place, many of them in great shape. I wet sanded and clear coated part of mine, and it looks great. I'm not a huge fan of 4th gens either, although I will admit the one in the pic has a nice aggressive stance.

You can pull the bezels apart yourself. After they are apart you can remove the grid, clean it up, and either A: mask off and repaint the black, or B: get a custom vinyl made in the correct grid pattern.

You can also have a shop scuff the outside, mask, paint the black grid and clear coat over it or you can have them tint the whole assembly.

That's good info. I didn't know that.

If i just tint the lens, wouldt the delamination still be visible ?

Why are there so many 4th gen haters? Only thing I truly hated about them was the engine being mounted halfway under the windshield.

I disliked the 4th gen Firebird more than the Camaro. I guess it's because, ironically, the Camaro retained more of a thirdgen appearance. They just did too much to the Firebird IMO, and it didn't look the same anymore. I own a 98 Camaro now, but would not want a 98 Bird. And you're right, the engine being shoved under the dash is ridiculous. If I ever have change injectors on my Camaro, I may have to farm it out. But on my 92 Firebird it would be a piece of cake.

Because the 4th gens are so typical of 90s American design. For some reason, car manufacturers and other producers got it in their heads that there was a 90s look that should be universal. It was the "aero bubble" look. It seems companies everywhere decided what things should look like rather than having designers come up with an original idea.
The 4th gens are the best example of this. A little harsher than I would have put it, but I basically agree. Which is why I tend to like the 4th gen Camaro better. GM didn't go so far off the deep end with the Camaro. My 98 can look pretty darn nice when I shine it up.

Interesting but an 85-90 outer lense is much more thicker on the outer edges than the 4th gen. I'm a little skeptical that it could be done.

98-2002 4th gens are awesome. Thirdgen camaros are the only camaros i like better comparable to the birds/trans am of same year.

True. TA's got better toward the latter end. They had an iD crisis with the nose piece for a few years, and I own a 4th gen Camaro, so I'm right there with ya.

I am not a 4th gen hater. If anything I dislike 1st gens more (mainly because I see 5-10 at every car show they are in huge abundance and still cost a fortune) Ya, take that 1st gen lovers! :P

Anyway. I had a friend that had a 4th gen. I always felt like it was a generic 'sporty' version of the Camaro. It was slow and not as 'cool' looking.

I personally think one of the big reasons the 3rd gen did so well because it was a well done muscle car meets sports car. It was in Nascar (which helped boost it) and everyone wanted one really bad. 4th gen they tried to go more sporty and lost the mean look.

The new 2015 Mustang is an example of today attempting to marriage muscle and sport. Personally I think they failed on this one.
