A bit off topic, but I just found this thread. What is weld thru primer? I am smoothing my firewall and engine bay right now so I don't think I will have to be doing any outter skin body work, but it sounds like you used some sort of special primer behind, or "on the inside" of what you were welding???

Very confused, but intrigued becuase this is one of my main fears with the shaving of the frame, or any place I can't have access to the backside of the weld. How to protect it from future rust.

thank you very much, i'll try to post some update pictures once the motor is in and everything, i didnt want to post too much about doing the engine swap and get the thread closed lol.

weld through primer is basically primer enriched with zinc, it helps keep the "heat zone" of welding to a mininum and keeps the newly welded pieces from corroding. it is also usually self-etching. its good stuff, but it also cost about $36 a can lol. basically its primer that doesnt burn away and flake off, its good for the surfaces that you cant get paint to later on
