Re: hanging hood please help!

From your pics I'm thinking maybe your rubber stops need to be lowered on the driver side

Re: hanging hood please help!

Grab some WD-40 and lubricate your latch very well. Just to see if it allows it to close better.

Then play around with the latch adjustment. This piece is located at the nose on the hood, and held on by two bolts. If it is not centered properly with the hood latch, it wont close at all, or all the way.

Re: hanging hood please help!

I'd also loosen the 2 bolts that hold the hood latch in place and lower it a bit. That should help lower the front center of the hood. I'd also remove that last rubber stop as mentioned above. How is the hood alignment/height at the rear of the hood by the windshield?

Re: hanging hood please help!

Yep, the hood needs to be moved back some. Is it possible that the front clip and panels on the drivers side have moved down? Might be able to see if old bolt head marks are there from it shifting.

From this pic, it looks like the edge of the hood needs to be brought back some.

The gap on this side is enough to bring the hood over this way as well so both sides are even.

Might help if you have someone with when you loosen the bolts and move it around.
The area by the door is somewhat common, but not as pronounced. Hard to tell with it being so close up though.

Re: hanging hood please help!

Have you checked under the hood hinge on the drivers side for and shims or washers? It's kinda high there too. What does the fender to door gap look like on the drivers side? Hood definitely needs to move back some. The corner of the hood should be even with the top of the headlight bucket when looking from the side.

The pics are the ones that you posted, I reposted them as a reference.

IIRC, the only way to adjust the hood is by loosening the bolts to the hood and shifting it into position. If this was an original hood, you may also be able to see how it was previously installed by looking for impressions and/or missing paint.

Re: hanging hood please help!

Are you sure the hood itself isn't twisted? Just asking cause its kinda sitting at an odd angle left to right.

Re: hanging hood please help!

if this were my car, and i had the place and tools to do it, i would pull the front end off of it and look to see if anything is bent, then if it is not, put it all back on and align it as i went

or at least have someone help you take the hood and hinges all the way off, strip all the hardware from the hood and see if you can even get the hood to sit right with nothing on it ... if you can get it to set right with nothing on it, put one part back on at a time until you either find the bad part, or it is all on and right

Re: hanging hood please help!

also, i am sure it is just me, but does the spring not look like it is way to long, it could be that the spring is the wrong one, and getting into a bind, not letting the hood go all the way down ... i dont have near that much room when i pop my hood and it is sitting on the spring

Re: hanging hood please help!

The gap between the hood and bumper cover looks a little too big to me. Loosen the latch and drop it down, see if it helps any. Passenger side of the hood will be low, but that's what the adjusters are there for. When you have the adjuster on the passenger side pushing up on that side of the hood it will flex the drivers side down some. The bumper cover can be adjusted down some if you need to drop the latch more than you have room for now, but it looks like you have enough to play with there. The gap on my car was almost dead tight. Post some pics of the rear corners of the hood from the top and the gap between the door and fender on both sides. The drivers side of the hood looks to be too far to the front, or the fender may not be far enough forward ( cant tell which from pics provided)There really is no left/right adjustment on the hinges to center the hood up, the rubber bumpers on the fenders keep it centered. The height on the rear of the hood is adjusted with another set of adjusters on the back of the hinges. Hope you get it ironed out, bad gaps drive me nuts too. If you were close, I'd gladly help you out with it.

Re: hanging hood please help!

@ Joe Tag ... the only reason i say i would take the front end off (or at least the hood and strip the hood, is this from the OP ... " i really dont know if it was in an acident it has a salvaged title but idk if it was in n accident."

Re: hanging hood please help!

Have you tried taking the hood latch completely out and just letting the hood sit down to see how it looks? If you start there and put your hood stops back in you can adjust the hood to the fenders. If it's the latch thats holding it up look down by the bottom of the radiator at the lower tie bar and the latch support and see if it has been damaged or pushed up by some jack weilding maniac mechanic. Or mechanic wannabe.

Re: hanging hood please help!

ok, just another quick thought and test ... could you get out a tape measure and get the inches from drivers side front of the fender to passenger rear of the fender ... then get the inches from drivers side rear of the fender to passenger front of the fender
