Re: hood struts

Stabilus is OEM in 4th gen's...the fact that Sachs is one of their divisions is great news since they're carried at a lot of parts stores.

Re: hood struts

Go with the O'Reilly supports. I replaced all 4 of mine 3 years ago and they are working fine. If you have a hatch, I believe they have different models for spoiler and spoiler exempt.

None of my local parts stores had stabilus in stock. so ordered them from rock auto. I prefer Napa . I just found out there's an O'Reilly auto parts in watertown Mass.

I bought my stabilus hood struts from rock auto. One arrived damaged, the mounting clip was broken. I made it work.

What part numbers do you use? I bought two sets from advance and they never last more than three month with little to no use.

I just spoke with one of your tech guys. Ive got a 89 formula 350 with rear spoiler but the oem rubber spoiler was cracked allowing water to enter and rust the hatch. i replaced it with a fiberglass spoiler which is a LOT lighter. I asked your tech if i ordered the supports for the non wiper non spoiler could i return them for the spoiler supports. He said yes. I was concerned about the fiberglass to rubber weight difference making the hatch too light and having too much power with the spoiler supports and damaging my hatch.

Ordered a set. Hopefully it works. And thanks for the video install series you guys do i love the vids

Re: hood struts

I bought the cheapest hood struts I could find on Ebay, paid $22 for the pair and they're still working great almost a year later.

Re: hood struts

Obviously one of the week parts on this car are the hood supports. Very poor design. I’ve been through five sets from different suppliers and it’s always the same. I get maybe a year out of them . That’s all... I think I am just going to fabricate a hood rod for this thing . Seems the only answer.

Re: hood struts

I got mine from 1AAuto…

They look like the originals with the same color sticker, etc…

work great! This was years ago and they still work perfect… can even leave the hood 25% open and it stays…

Re: hood struts

I got Oreilly struts 15 years ago.....I think they were branded as strong arm?....they look like the ones above with the blue stickers.

They're a little weaker now but still hold the hood up with no issue.

I also got the Napa ones for a different car t around the same time.... those still work as well, though not as good and they do / have been making noise and seem to bind a little....... the pistons on those are black instead of chrome silver.
