Hood blister inserts...

Alright, I may seem like a newbie with this question, but I'll ask anyway. What are the hood blister inserts in a 91-92 Z28 made of. The reason I am asking, I scratched mine today and I was surprised to find that they are metal, just painted. I was always under the impression that they were rubber, because that's what they feel like. Well I guess I answered my first question as what they were made of, but what is the best way to fix the scratch? What type/finish paint should I get?

Re: Hood blister inserts...

The original inserts are thin metal and painted a satin black. Usually they get destroyed if you try to take them off. They are held on by a sticky double sided tape and the metal bends before you can get them off. I would remove the bilster from the hood and mask it off very carefully and paint it without taking the insert out. If you can't get the insert to look right there is a company on ebay selling a carbon fiber decal you can use to replace the insert.

That's weird, the blisters on my 92' are fiberglass. I know that for a fact because I took a dremel to the indents in them to make them functional and all the white dust was proof of fiberglass. Maybe mine were after market? IDK.

The actual blisters are plastic. Its the black insert that is metal.
