opinions on body work I need. Told to sell my car...
I took my car to a body shop yesterday to get an estimate on fixing some dents and replacing the windshield trim. The guy I talked to basically told me to sell the car and buy one that's already done. Whatever I do to the car won't be worth it and it'll be 10-15k to have it looking showroom new. I'm looking for opinions on how bad the damages are. I guess i'll start with the worst first

Is that all the damage to the body of your car? If so it not that bad, My first question is how much mechanic ability do you have? The one door needs to be replaced, You can find a good one at the salvage yard. The front fender can be fixed from behind you might be able to push it out I would try that first. The other door needs sanded down to get rid of the surface rust, The rear wheel well is a tuff on as its on a seam but it can be fixed. and a new front spoiler, Where ever you got that estimate of 10 to 15 grand to get your car redone , well it can be done for less, Its not that bad

I'd feel pretty confident taking off a fender or two along with the door. I like engine work and building them but body work is something i've never done. Are you talking about the golf ball sized dent on the rear wheel well? If so that's actually the drivers side front fender. I'm not even looking for a $3000 paintjob, just want to make the car look decent until I can finish school

I think he was. I told him all I wanted was a few things done but I guess he didn't listen haha. There's a driver side door and two front fenders here locally for $300 I might have to pick up

Typical production shop advise!
They didn't want to bother so they gave u the blowoff!
Shop around and you will find a shop or a body man doing work on the side that will give you a better deal and actually want to do your carup.
Go to the next shop and tell them you want the dents fixed and painted with a single stage enamel.
Sure its not base coat/clear coat paint like the "purists" love but it aheck of a lot cheaper and look pretty good when finished.
Take your time and shop around....................

Good advice thanks! and i'm in Wisconsin so finding rust free doors and fenders is the challenge. But I found a small family owned body shop less than a mile away actually so i'll try there next

It is hard finding good panels in NY too. I ended up buying some "mint" door shells from Arkansas. Shipping was a bit steep. I ended up paying $150 a door shipped. Not a single spot of rust and only 3 parking lot dings I could find so I can't really complain.
