I need to order weatherstripping for my car within the next couple of days. It is a hardtop coupe and I plan on replacing all of it. I am looking for opinions on which way to go. I realize the GM stuff costs a fortune. Does it have any beneficial factors? Who makes the best aftermarket stuff and where to buy? I am willing to buy the GM parts if it makes sense. Any and all input and sharing of experience is appreciated. Thank you.

I've found that the GM kits are usually 3-4 times the price of the aftermarket ones. Unless you're building a show-quality car that you want to be 100% correct, I'd go aftermarket.

I went with the GM T-Top seals, and the aftermarket door.

I wish I would have went with the GM seals now. I guess for a daily driver that you dont' really care about, the aftermarket ones are OK. But on a car that you want to look nice, the aftermarket ones just don't fit quite right. And the molded areas, look different compared to the GM ones.

I bought the Metra 8 piece kit, haven't installed it yet. Not expecting it to fit perfectly, or look very close to GM. I would buy the GM one if it were for a nicer car, but I can't justify spending $800 on weatherstripping for a car that I paid $400 for.

Get the GM stuff. It's a perfect fit the first time, looks great and will last another 20-25 years. There are numerous users on these forums that bought the aftermarket stuff, because it was cheaper, just to replace it again in a couple years for one reason or other. Total out of pocket for them was much higher than just buying the right stuff the first time.

Not sure why everyone states the cost is 4-5 times that of aftermarket. A few years ago, I bought the GM stuff and paid about $250 for the ttop set. This was for both sides and purchased new at the dealer. Granted, the prices have gone up, but if you're looking at eBay as an indicator for prices, you need to start shopping elsewhere.

I used Soffseal and I was happy with it. Most problems occur if the install is bad. Stay away from OER brand and you should be OK.

I went the GM stuff over door, around door, lift gate, and hood seal. I already had purchased the soft seal around the door seals last year and never installed them. I am having my car repainted and don't really want to take any chances. If all goes well I'll have some soft seal around the door seals for sale. Got mine through a dealer no where near 250 but significantly cheaper than anywhere else. I'll try and give some feedback when the car is reassembled. If the GM stuff doesn't work out I'll buy the cheaper stuff next time.
