Getting full coverage on a third gen Camaro?
I wasn't sure what section to put this in, but I figured the most costly damage that I'm worried about would be to the body, so I posted it here.
I was wondering if it's possible to get full coverage on a third gen Camaro.. and I mean full coverage where they would coverage the damages even if it's more than the value of the car. I mean the 92, the latest model of our generation of cars, just left the range of the Blue Book values, so you can't get a Blue Book value on any year of our cars. So how could they determine whether it's considered totalled or not? I'm sure they would try to go get the last year that it was in the Blue Book, and give you the lowest value. But I see third gens going for 5 digits if the miles are low enough.
So I'm thinking you need some sort of classic car full coverage. Do you think this is possible with our cars? Does anyone have something like this?

I have full coverage on my my 3rd gens through Nationwide, but I might be moving the TA to Haggerty this year since my agent writes for them as well, I'm going to give her a call in a few weeks and see that the coverage and rates will be.

I know some places will not do agreed value unless it is over 25 years old. So you might have to go to haggerty or some of the other collector car insurance companies. Please post what you end up with and your rate, I'm about to do this myself when I get mine back together.

I paid $4,000 for my iroc..and I have progressive ins...I had full coverage on iroc and liability on my truck...I was paying about $130 per mounth ...the iroc had a $10,000 max if it was totaled...I dont know where they got $10,000 from, but I wasn't going to argue with them....a year later I took a loan out and used the iroc for collateral...the loan was with Jeep Federal Credit Union...they said loan value was $8,500...I took a $5,000 loan...just paid it off last November. ..and now that I'm working on the iroc I have ins on it but I cant drive it...ins is for theft and vandalism...with liability on my blazer...I'm paying $98 per mounth. ..

If your looking for insurance for a daily driver, don't waste your time with the collector insurance companies. They won't insure it.

I use Grundy World Wide...
I have $20k agreed upon value, and pay $317 a year... for my 91...
Seen some older cars in other areas (I'm in FL) pay less
There are some stipulations.... garage kept, must have other "main car"...
No mileage limits, etc...

me wife sells insurance and we went with Haggerty after we did the LS swap. $25K coverage, with some limitations, but nothing that gets in the way of how we enjoy the car.

Mine is around 175.00 per year. Must be garaged. You MUST have a daily driver. You will lose your multi-car discount if you only have 2 cars and one goes on antique auto policy. No problem, just do what I did, buy another Firebird and the multi-car discount returns.lol I have two thirdgens and a cavalier.

Even without a multi-car discount my insurance rates with them are pretty cheap. I pay $60 a month for full coverage on the Z and when I asked her what the rates would be for a 3.8 fourth gen since I plan on buying a low mile one for my daily I believe it was only $100 more every 6 months.

Yes. I had inquired about it before. I had antique plates at the time but the agent knew I was daily driving it. She kept quiet about the plates but told me to come back when I had a second car. She didn't mention it having to be garaged and knows I live in a townhouse.

Re: Getting full coverage on a third gen Camaro?
I won't do antique plates and luckily it's not a requirement for state farm. I just can't put antique plates on KITT. Not to mention every one around here who does this on cars that are NOT 1979 or older get hassled by cops for "not being on a trailer" or "not being in a parade." Even though my 82 is now over 30 years old...it just doesn't seem like an antique to me.lol
Then, one night back in January of this year, it was around 11:30PM and I was feeling pretty bored so I decided to drive 10 miles the next county over and grab a soda. Upon pulling into my neighborhood on the way back, I knew I was about to get pulled over because a county cop who was about to make a right turn just sat there when he saw me driving with one headlight (Was in the middle of doing the HID projector retrofit at the time). Pulls me over and gives me the BS excuse he stopped me for my headlight but everyone knows they're checking to see if you're drunk.
When he asked what I was doing out, I told him "I felt like going for a drive" since the VA penal code actually says verbatim, "You are allowed an occasional pleasure cruise in your antique vehicle not to exceed 250 miles from your home". Does not place any restrictions on days of week or mileage per year. When this gumshoe moron comes back to the car I was expecting a fix-it ticket for the headlight but instead he hands me a ticket for not the headlight but, "Unauthorized use of antique plates". I tried explaining to him the exact wording of the law section and his response was to "Tell it to the judge".
Went to court the next month representing myself and got it thrown out. Cop looked like an idiot. The REALLY stupid part is at the time he stopped me I was legitimately within the law. I wasn't driving to work or anything like that. I always thought it was going to be state that tried to get me for them.

I have had Haggerty for three years now. Agreed Value of $40k, $250 deductible with 5k miles of driving for $840.

Also I don't know much it costs. But I'll tell you what insurance we have when I get out of school.

I got my Grundy bill in the mail the other day and it was $339.... Hmmm...
So I did a quick online quote and for $20,000 value, I got a quote for $299...
So a couple of days before policy was due, I called them and asked what's up?
The guy ran he numbers and said my agreed value was currently higher than $20k, and I had the wrong amount... so he fixed it, $20k agreed upon value $ 292 for the year policy

Re: Getting full coverage on a third gen Camaro?
i have grundy too, it was the cheapest of all of the ones i could get quotes for. and the "historic" plates from NYS. pretty sure the state requires the type of insurance not the other way around. and they dont put a mile limit on the plates at least here that would be to much to try to enforce. it just says something to the effect of only to be used for occasional drives, club, and shows
