Recently I began looking at a car, a 1987 Iroc to be exact. While originally it was a 305 auto, it now has a 350 from a '99 Tahoe, converted to TPI, along with a mild cam and supporting mods like rockers and springs. The transmission was rebuilt with a shift kit and has a B&M slap shift on it which goes out to a 3.73 geared stock housing rear end. Aside from all that its got hooker LT headers and exhaust as well.

Mechanically the car is a stud, it runs and pulls like a champ. No rattles or squeaks that you would expect from a car of this age either.

Now, the dirty, the paint is faded in a lot of places and clear is peeling on the hood and one of the fenders, it also appears the rear driver quarter had been replaced at some point do to some tightness near the hatch line and well hidden weld through the sail panel and near the tail lights of that side. the bumper guards are missing on the doors and you can see wearing on the door paint where they should be, more so on the passenger side. it needs two new tires, and the interior while overall is quite healthy is is a bit faded and theres a small tear in the drivers seat. The bottom seam on the passenger door is rusted and flakey all the way down the door. (no picture of this though)

The body has about 79k while the motor had about 90k when it went in ten years or so ago. I would guess its a few thousand over 100k by now.

My question to you all is what would you offer for this? He wont go lower than $3500, but IMHO theres not much resale in the car due to the nature of the build and the cosmetic work it needs.

To me it appears to be a pretty straight car from the photos you posted. the question is are you looking for something to flip or just a toy to piddle with and enjoy?

I want the car to enjoy, to me it's got all the mods I would want to do already. So I would just need to clean it up a little cosmetically.

Looks like a fair price from what I can see and how well you say it runs. It really depends on what your needs and intentions are. If you're looking for a restoration project, show car, or something to resell I'd pass. If you want a nice daily driver or weekend ride to toy around with it doesn't sound bad. If you could do the body and paint yourself the car might sell for a little over $5,000 to someone who would wanted it as primary transportation and if you did nothing other than maintainance to the car you could probably own it several years and sell it for what you paid.

Well put partspuller,thanks. A friend of mine owns it, so i'll just let him hold it over the holidays and re-negotiate closer to spring.

I think the car appears to be a good starting point for a weekend driver. The body looks pretty straight and as you pointed out most of the issues are cosmetic so you could be driving and enjoying the car while you clean it up. You could get another one at a lower price but getting it from a friend is worth something too.

The car isn't in bad shape! I think it would be worth the asking price in its present state! I walked into my car for just a little less than that and it needed the front end painted, new carb, new tires, and an entirely new interior.

Plus its a t top car, which is sweet. I like my hard top, but I got it simply because it was the best deal I came across at the time.

I paid 4000(as is seen in pics) for my 87 iroc 305 with 92,000 miles with very little interior cosmetic worked needed.. just something to compare to.. check my page for pics
