Headlights

I have a 1991 Firebird and i know the Driver side headlight motor is out, its got no power. The passenger side is still good,it used to come up with no problem and stay up,Now the light doesn't come up at all i have to manually lift it and does not stay up. I know the motor is still good cause i can hear it running. What do u think the problem may be ? Is their anyway i can just put up the lights without the motors and keep them up ? Also the trunk pull down motor works too as i can hear it trying to latch but just can't,therefore the trunk don't close all the way. Any fix to these issues ?

I know when my wipers on my old car i would turn them on and hear the motor running but no movement there was a nut that was tightend down so it might just be that somethings loose check everything and make sure its snug

Re: Headlights

I'd just change the motors. I just did this on my t/a, not hard. Passenger side motor was slow, sometimes would stick up or down so i changed it and then realized the drivers side was slow, so i changed it too. 3 Bolts, a nut and the plug, that's all

Re: Headlights

The passenger side may just need a bushing kit available at Top Down Solutions. The driver side needs to be determined if it is getting power or not. If no power you will need to check back further. It may be the relay. If it is getting power but the motor is not turning then probably need to replace the motor with another later style two wire motor.
Sorry I do not know much about the powered hatch motors even though I have it on my Bird.

I have a replacement bracket and motor for the hatch already.Just thought id try to fix the one i have installed. The Headlights i was wondering if i can just keep them up without the motor. I was told with the older cars with the flip lights there was a switch or something to keep em up !

Sorry, I can only tell you how to repair them correctly. TDS 207280 is $6.75. It contains the 3 CNC machined Delrin bushings to replace the broken oem gel bushings that have crumbled into chunks in your headlight motor.

TDS 209280 deluxe headlight repair kit is $20.25 contains enough to repair a pair of headlights. It contains 6 Delrin bushings, two side cover gaskets, one motor gasket, two screws & nuts (in case you snap off some during the repair) and a packet of synthetic grease. Both kits include a detailed multi-page instruction sheet.

Re: Headlights

It will balance out OK. The reduced mpg he is getting from having the headlights up day and night will be offset by the increase in mpg he gets from the weight reduction of driving without a hood.

Re: Headlights

If you install the complete new motors do you have the remove the headlight assy's fromt the car like you do if you do the rebuild kit. I have the TDS rebuild kit, but thinking about just getting the new motors as Summit Racing has then kinda cheap and don't feel like taking the headlights out.
