Hood Hinge Issue

I've got an 86 Iroc and i've been having issues with my hood hinges. When I go to open or close the hood, it looks like the area of the hood closest to the windshield is closing unevenly. Yesterday I took off the hood hinges, brought them to the vice, and whacked the actual movement points with a hammer / punch. This tightened the hinge up nicely, but i'm still having the problem with it closing unevenly.

To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen one of these cars where the hood actually stays open like it should.

Suggestions? Think I need new hinges?

Well I just lubed mine up really well and put on new shocks and it still opens a touck uneven. I guess that's the way they are.

At least it lines up now and looks good. I hit it with some black while it was off the car. Its goofy. The driver's side dips down while the passenger side stays up. I lubed them up last week. The hood struts look like new.

Lubed mine up again to see if it would help but it is still the same. Brand new struts also.

Re: Hood Hinge Issue

I'm thinking my hinges are just shot. Which is a bummer, but we'll see what happens when I replace them. Until then, it looks like i'm going to have to use the hockey stick. At least i painted it to match

Re: Hood Hinge Issue

WTF all of a sudden mine started working the same, maybe took a while for the WD40 to penetrate. Good luck with yours.

Re: Hood Hinge Issue

Take off that heavy steel hood and put a glass lift off hood , never have a hinge problem after that !

Re: Hood Hinge Issue

It will take quite a bit of weight off the front of the car , those stock steel hoods are heavy , I bet my glass hood is only 30lbs
